Arriving 7/30/14

Brian Hibbs

This week we say goodbye to some old friends, with the final issues of FATALE and PROPHET. Welcome new ones, with Rick Remender and Greg Tocchini’s LOW debuting. Plus, the long awaited third issue of SANDMAN OVERTURE makes it’s way to our sweaty, undeserving hands. Those are some highlights, but there is more to behold beneath the cut.

Starting off slow; Hibbs on 7/23/14

Brian Hibbs

OK, spam  on the site locked down, new store pretty close to squared away, maybe I am now in place to start reveiwin’ again.  I’ve certainly been missing it somewhat. I can’t promise this will be every week (in fact, I think I feel confident in announcing that this will NOT be each and every week… unless I do one of those Patreon thingies, in which case then it would be a paid job, and thus an obligation.  But I’m not thinking about doing that until I can prove to MYSELF that I can stay on this horse for a little while. Let’s just go full capsule-style under that jump.

Arriving 7/21/14

Brian Hibbs

This week has SAGA #21 and AFTERLIFE OF ARCHIE #6. If there was every a reason to be excited for a Wednesday, that would be it. But, as I am sure you know, there is much more beneath the cut, so click and find out!

The Spam is gone!

Arriving 7/9/14

Brian Hibbs

Last week soaked up a lot of the books that would normally ship in the second week leaving this one feeling lean. Though, we still see LUMBERJANES, SHUTTER, WALKING DEAD and some debuts from DC with GRAYSON and NEW SUICIDE SQUAD. Those are but a few of the books this week, click the cut and see what else will sate your comics need this week.

Comix Experience Best Sellers: First half of 2014, Books

Brian Hibbs

OK, same thing as the last post, except this time we’ll talk about BOOKS. Again, after the jump for those of you who don’t want to read sales charts!

Comix Experience Best Sellers: First half of 2014, Comics

Brian Hibbs

Hey, hey, it’s the half-year report from Comix Experience – now also with numbers from Comix Experience Outpost. You’ll find it below the cut, for those of you who like numbers-porn.

Arriving 7/2/14

How can any week stand up against the monster that was last week? It may be the underdog, but this week is giving it a try. We have some favorites in the form of EAST OF WEST and SOUTHERN BASTARDS, plus Marvel is starting its push for the GUARDIANS movie with ROCKET RACCOON and LEGENDARY STAR-LORD hitting the street this week. Find all of this weeks comics just below the cut!

Arriving 6/25/14

Brian Hibbs

No one is pulling any punches this week. We have a huge array of returning favorites with DEADLY CLASS, MS. MARVEL, BATMAN, STRAY BULLETS, TREES and, of course, SAGA. Plus some big debuts with Robert Kirkman and Paul Azaceta’s OUTCAST and Geoff Johns and John Romita, Jr. taking the reigns of SUPERMAN. There is so much more that it would be foolish to try and list up here when you can just click the link and see what all is coming your way this week!

Tilting #234 is up!

Brian Hibbs

Death. To. The. Penny! And more more more on the second store (store store). Find it at Comic Book Resources, though you MAY post here if you prefer not to there (but the community there IS much improved lately) -B

Ow, sorry, timewarp!

Brian Hibbs

Backstage problems here at SavCrit, and everything that was posted in the last 97 days just got deleted. The GOOD news is it is in service of getting rid of the damn spam (though, that will still be a bit more time, but it IS being actively worked on) It is possible (?) that John K and Jeff and Abhay all wrote things in Word first, and can restore their posts, but I’m not going to bet on it.  I know I sure as heck didn’t! Still, happy thoughts, right? I am SO close to being done with the main parts of back issue project at the new store that is soaking virtually all of my time (I just started…  Read More…

Arriving 3/12/14

Brian Hibbs

This week is a lesson. This week is telling us that we should not judge a week by the amount of books, but the quality of the books. Case in point, this week marks the long awaited return of David Lapham’s STRAY BULLETS with, not one but, two periodicals and a giant book, that itself could be used as a weapon in a story that would appear in it’s very pages! Don’t be fooled though! Plenty other books are coming out this week, just click the link and see for yourself!

I know, the site is a little borked, I know!

Brian Hibbs

Comments be broken, there’s spam, and so on… I’m trying to get it addressed, but I’m just drowning from overwork with the second store.  Some things should be happening VERY SOON that should make things a little better, and there are a few other changes coming that (I don’t think?) are really my announcements to make, so I won’t…. But, really, I’m just asking for patience until my schedule clears up a little — I’m a little past halfway done with the BASEMENT O’ DOOM! then, after that I actually plan to return to reviewing things again.  But that might not be until summertime? Trying hard to suck less!   -B

Arriving 3/5/14

Brian Hibbs

This week is a small week, but don’t be fooled! A small week can still have more big books than you can count. Including not one, but two, Mark Millar books in the form of STARLIGHT #1 and his and Quietly’s return to JUPITER’S LEGACY. Plus, new Warren Ellis in the form of MOON KNIGHT #1, Brubaker and Epting with VELVET #4 and the latest WALKING DEAD collection. That is a lot of things, but trust me, their is more beneath the cut!

Arriving 2/26/14

Brian Hibbs

This a big week following a month of smaller weeks, so if you had been holding back the previous weeks, now is the time to go all in on comic books! High profile releases this week are DEADLY CLASS #2, the return of THE WAKE and HAWKEYE #15, but if those aren’t the books for you than I am sure we can find you something beneath the cut!

Tilting #230 is live: BookScan 2013

Brian Hibbs

Yay, the longest thing I write every year. Man, I didn’t AT ALL have the time to write this one, either. Go read it, then let me know what you think…… -B

Arriving 2/19/14

Brian Hibbs

Another week of comics appears! Though due to inclement weather conditions shipments for the whole of the west coast will be delayed twenty four hours but still shelved on Wednesday, so if you are an early morning comic buyer, maybe wait till the afternoon. Now the fun stuff! With the debut of the first collection of Ales Kot and friend’s ZERO, along side some of our other favorites, like ALEX + ADA, and new comer UNDERTOW, this is a week you should not shy away from. Find the rest of the comics you can look forward to this week after the cut!

Arriving 2/12/14

Brian Hibbs

It is another week of comics, I am sure you know you weren’t going to get off so easy as to not have new comics for a week! No! The big book this week is easily the third volume of PROPHET and a little thing called THE WALKING DEAD also comes out again this week. “Surely, there are more than two books this week,” you ask, and I respond, “of course!” Click that link below and you will see all the new comics for yourself!

Arriving 2/5/2014

Brian Hibbs

February is starting slow with a week on the smaller side. Some standouts are the final collection of LOCKE & KEY and G. Willow Wilson and Adrian Alphona’s MS. MARVEL.  Some other excellent choices lie just behind the cut, if you would like to explore deeper.

James Robinson signing @ Outpost 2/26, 5-7 PM

Brian Hibbs

The first signing for Comic Outpost is a super-doozy: Industry legend James Robinson (who, fun fact, had his first GN release with LONDON’S DARK the same year I opened my first store) will be appearing to support FANTASTIC FOUR #1 (on day of release), as well as ALL-NEW INVADERS and his Image comic THE SAVIORS.  I couldn’t be more excited. Comic Outpost is located at 2381 Ocean Ave in San Francisco.  There is buckets of free parking north of the store, and we literally have a stop of the K line streetcar right in front of the shop; we’re all of 8 stops on the underground from downtown, it is a short and easy hop. (And thank you Jeff Lester…  Read More…
