I’m looking at my half-year performance, so you can too!

Actually, before I get into the comics, let’s do the big overview. First: sales down for the half by 2.1%, versus same period in 2010. *sad face*
As is pretty usual, if I kept cheap stuff in the charts, it would totally dominate. Here’s the Top Ten in Pieces, including Everything:
| 1 | Quarter Book – Single |
| 2 | Dollar Book |
| 3 | Sale Book |
| 4 | Back Issue |
| 5 | FEAR ITSELF #1 (OF 7) |

| 8 | Starter Set |

Overall, I’d say it’s been an ugly-ish six months for periodical comics. Anything interesting stand out for you?

Is it that your store works to push the different/better stuff or do you just have a solid clientele that likes a bit of other stuff with their spandex?
Excellent list and nice to see the cream rising.
What happened to Batman Inc #5, such that sales go 3, 4, 6, [...] 5?
Ryan: Bit of both, really. XOMBI #1 at #8 is a result of pushing, for example.
Reboot: Dunno for sure — #5 just sold less (by something like 10%) than the others. Doesn’t make sense to me, either, and there’s no other exterior reason (like getting allocated or something) that I can see from looking at the record. People didn’t like the cover, maybe?

The popularity of Batman Inc seems weirdly at odds with how DC handled that idea with the relaunch.
They said that books that were working would be mostly unaltered, and yet they arnt relaunching that book, they’re putting Dick back in the Nightwing role, taking Barbara out of the Oracle role (my understanding was that Oracle was going to play some part in that series) and making Catwoman a villain again (she was helping Bruce out in early issues of Inc).
I kind of understand that moves as far as trying to make the Batman franchise accessible, but if thats the case why didn’t they reverse it all the way back to Dick as Robin?
It seems they’ve hit this weird middle ground of derailing their most successful book (by your numbers) while also keeping all the convoluted aspects of the property.
Ryan: From personal experience, I can tell you that Brian and his staff does a great job of recommending books. I’ve only visited his store once, last November. I don’t get much opportunity to read comics anymore, so I wasn’t expecting to purchase much – if anything. I visited the store more out of curiosity, since I’ve been reading Brian’s column and blog for years. With my wife’s blessing, I ended up buying approximately $200 of merchandise, many of which I hadn’t even heard of before.
Since I don’t have much chance to read comics, I’m actually still working my way through that pile. At the rate I’m going, I’ll probably be done by November. Perhaps, I’ll make another trip and spend another $200. :)
Yay for Xombi-flogging. That’s some good comics right there. Buffy seems to sell ludicrously well in your store too.
You like Batman more than Spider-Man?
And Image stuff not by Kirkman just hangs around?
