  1. Eerie?

    Battle Beasts?

    Space Punisher?

I just can’t say how underwhelmed I am. And this is from a person who built a cutom case to hold his Battle Beats figures back in the day.

  2. Eerie?

    Battle Beasts?

    Space Punisher?

I just can’t say how underwhelmed I am. And this is from a person who built a custom case to hold his Battle Beats figures back in the day.

  3. ADVENTURE TIME MARCELINE SCREAM QUEENS #1 – YES!!! Meredith Gran!!!!

BLOODSHOT (ONGOING) #1 – This Valiant thing is working out better than I hoped, but my hopes were pretty low. Still, I’m liking it.

DANCER #3 – I think this would read better as a trade. Not sure if I’m feeling this, but I don’t mind buying too many indie books.

    HARBINGER (ONGOING) #2

MASSIVE #2 – I did not enjoy the first issue. I’m hoping the book finds its legs with the second issue, but if not, I’m out. The first issue had serious pacing problems and the characters were very generic. I was just hoping they’d all die by the end of the comic.

TALES DESIGNED TO THRIZZLE #8 – I got this waaay back at Mocca! It’s genius, as is everything Kupperman does.

TERRY MOORE HOW TO DRAW #4 FUNNY – I found this a few weeks ago, too. It’s awesome.

  4. Last Week! I didn’t go to the shop! So I’m hoping they still have…
CASTLE WAITING VOL II #17 – Am committed to seeing it through to its conclusion, even if the story now seems to be about decorating a room
INFERNAL MAN-THING #1 (OF 3) – I may pick this up in spite of myself, as I’m waiting for the trade, which was the original intended format and is now alleged to include “Song Cry of the Living Dead Man”, perhaps my favorite Steve Gerber story (and that’s saying a lot!)

    This Week!
BATMAN #11 – I’ve dropped most of the Nü 52 titles I was reading, & this end of the Owls storyline could be my logical jumping off point (last issue was cool though)

BULLETPROOF COFFIN DISINTERRED #6 (OF 6) – It will either tie up the disparate ends of the 1st 5 issues or be told in fractal geometry that melts in your hand and into your brains while revealing nothing. Both options equally plausible

EERIE COMICS #1 – Been cherry picking its sister title Creepy, so I’ll happily check this out at $2.99

SAUCER COUNTRY #5 – More intriguing than really satisfying so far, and last issue was kinda EH!, so there’ll be a cursory flip-through before it comes home with me

SWAMP THING #11 – Loved the last issue, totally dreading “Rotworld”

TALES DESIGNED TO THRIZZLE #8 – All hail Kupperman, especially when he can produce more than one issue a year

WALKING DEAD #100 – Hopefully takes some of the stupid out of the last couple issues. That said, kudos to Kirkman on this landmark, and I hope the forecasts of this being the best selling comic of the year come true

RICHARD STARKS PARKER THE SCORE – Hell yes

  5. LAST WEEK – only just got to the shops earlier today, so not read them all yet. Action Comics #11 and Green Arrow #11 were quite good reads.

BATMAN #11 – Last issue, and the whole Owls storyline, underwhelmed to such an extent that I’m seriously on the fence about getting this book.

CONAN THE BARBARIAN #6 – Pirates pillaging!

CREEPY COMICS #9 – Hoping that this will be a good one, and I’m very curious to see Peter Bagge’s strip.

DEMON KNIGHTS #11 – Keeps on truckin’.

EERIE COMICS #1 – I’m a bit annoyed this is coming out the same week as Creepy, and I hope it’s just a one-off occurrence. I’d hoped this book would allow me to get B&W horror short stories all month around!

FRANKENSTEIN AGENT OF SHADE #11 – Last issue was good, but not amazing. I’m hoping Kindt bams it up a notch.

KIRBY GENESIS #8 – Is this the end?

MASSIVE #2 – Loved the first issue, it gave me similar thrills to reading Saga #1. Really keen for more of this series.

PLANETOID #2 – First issue wasn’t great, but it was enjoyable and showed promise.

REVIVAL #1 – Norton’s art looks nice in the previews and the concept sounds decent, so I’ll give it a shot.

SAUCER COUNTRY #5 – Loving it. It’s a smart, briskly paced, sci-fi thriller. I think the creators are doing a good job with this early period, where we don’t know how sci-fi it’s going get/what sort of book it will be, to play with and challenge our expectations for the plot and characters. I really like that all the characters are all pro-active in this book, no one seems to be sitting around waiting for events to happen.

  6. Last Week!
I spent most of my free time last week touring the parks system of central Ohio and realizing I’ve still got a ways to go on my map reading badge. Nevertheless, just a great time. Comics reading suffered but we’ll be back on the ball this week.

I would be super interested to hear more from both Chris Hero and Ben Lipman (or anyone who feels like chiming in) about their reactions to The Massive #1. I was similar to Chris in that I was left very cold – especially by the characters. I think in my original response I mentioned the woman who was set up as being one of the original (more pacifist minded) pieces of the crew. That she then goes out and manages to kill three boats worth of armed pirates via stunt boating decapitations and the like stretched the credibility of the storytelling.

If they want us to believe that this is taking place in a very tight and bound universe that just recently went over the falls then this kind of thing has to be reined in. I’d find it much more “appealing” if they just opened up on those poor bastards with a deck gun that Cal Israel (sigh) felt really conflicted about using.

I’m with everyone going back to give it a second chance though. Maybe he just felt the heat of trying to cram in so much world building. Here’s to hoping we get the mystery.

    BATMAN #11
You, me, and everyone else has a couple big stories they’d tell with franchise properties. I didn’t read Snyder’s Detective so I feel I’m giving him short shrift by asking him to “prove it to me” again on Batman but after last week’s awesome Morrison “Fuck You New 52” the bar is high and that was a single issue.

BLOODSHOT (ONGOING) #1 Again, echoing @Chris Hero my hero I went into all of these A) having no real connection to previous incarnations and B) with low “try something different” expectations. I’ve liked them all so far and I think that points to a good, organized launch. Kudos thus far. I will be reading!

    CONAN THE BARBARIAN #6
    Yes, yes, blood!!!

    HARBINGER (ONGOING) #2
See above. Psyched for the possibilities.

    MASSIVE #2
    See above.

PUNK ROCK JESUS #1 (OF 6)
Well, come on. With a title like that you’ve got to see it, at least. Right?

    SAUCER COUNTRY #5
Listening to Nerdist Writer’s podcasts in order – wondering when the comic book version is going to come out…

    SHADE #10 (OF 12)
Goddamn it. More people need to get into this. Slightly disappointed that the Cosmic Pharaoh cast has not been revealed as fallen gods of Kirby…yet. Second World? Third World? C’mon, James! It’s there! Carpe Deity!

    SUPERBOY #11
Scott Lobdell’s batting average would have him on a bus to the minors for a lot of people but this book, for me, is the (insert Crash Davis monologue about weird hits being the difference between having a good / great batting average or being thrown out of the game). I love it.

    YOUNGBLOOD #72
I maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay look. What the hell, right? It’s not like I’m spending money on AvX.

  7. Comics! I got them by the killer-gram this week, so I will skip the capsule reviews for space.

AMERICAN VAMPIRE LORD OF NIGHTMARES #2 – great art.

AVENGING SPIDER-MAN #9 – The new Ms. Marvel kicks off. I’m responding to Kelly Sue’s plea, that if we want to read her comics, we should actually ORDER her comics.

BATMAN #11 – Thomas Wayne did not blow my mind. Like J_Smitty and Ben Lipman, I’m not sure how much longer I’m with this book.

BEFORE WATCHMEN MINUTEMEN #2 – I was sadly very EH about the first issue. At least it will be pretty.

    CONAN THE BARBARIAN #6 – I hear it’s bloody.

EERIE COMICS #1 – tingling my spine at $2.99!

HOAX HUNTERS #1 – should go well will Suacer Country.

LEGION LOST #11 – I jumped on for issue #10, and quite enjoyed it, so I’m back for more.

MASSIVE #2 LEON CVR – I think I need to re-read that first issue.

PLANETOID #2 – did what first issues should do: set up the character and the plot, and laid out the first story hook. As Jeff would say, a fine level of craft being shown here, and a solid GOOD for #1.

PUNK ROCK JESUS #1 – hell yeah!

REVIVAL #1 CVR A FRISON – some mid-west winter gothic, in the middle of the summer of fire.

SAUCER COUNTRY #5 – I think James Woodward hit it perfectly: I am also more intrigued than satisfied. But these days, intriguing is pretty much enough.

SUICIDE SQUAD #11 – bad people doing bad things.

SWAMP THING #11 – also looking for a jumping off point.

THE LONE RANGER SNAKE OF IRON #1 – I have been pleased with Dynamite so far on their Ranger, so I’ll (even) give this Chuck Dixon mini a shot.

WALKING DEAD #100 CVR H ADLARD WRAP – brains.

    and in books:

OUR VALUED CUSTOMERS CONVERSATIONS FROM COMIC BOOK STORE SC – yeah, because whenever I dream of owning a store, all I have to do is click on this strip. Great, fun stuff. Support yer local webcomic!

OVERSTREET COMIC BK PG HC VOL 42 AVENGERS – when comics finally break my heart, at least I’ll know what I can get for the little bastards.

RICHARD STARKS PARKER THE SCORE – I thought The Outfit was pretty damn near perfect.

Another Marvel Free week. And I guess I don’t see the MARVEL NOW 21 changing that. (and as a tagline, it sounds like Marvel can now buy beer without driving to Canada)

  8. Avenging Spider-Man (FOR KELLY SUE!), Bulletproof Coffin, Defenders, Judge Dredd Megazine, Massive, Saucer Country, Shade (! – hoping stupidly for a Robinson/Irving SHADE ongoing), maybe Creepy AND Eerie (though I agree they shouldn’t ship the same week). Looking forward.

  9. DEFENDERS 8 – generally I don’t warm to Fraction’s work, but this is nice standalone book (similar to how WORLDS’ FINEST and EARTH 2 are distinct from the Did-Lee-Squat DC) and quite readable and –well, fun.
