  1. The Fantastic Four 1234 hardcover re-prints an excellent Grant Morrison tale with stunning art by Jae Lee. Nice to see Marvel getting on the stick with this one.

  2. “Getting on the stick” would have entailed not letting it to OOP in the first place :)

  3. Wait, what? Justice League International but no Justice League? What week does Justice League come out?

Ah well… Just OMAC #2 for me I guess.

  4. And lo, it shall be Month NuTu!

ACTION COMICS #2 (promised the most, delivered the most)

ANIMAL MAN #2 (met my expectations, and expectations were high)

DETECTIVE COMICS #2 (just not sure I’m up for a multiple fangasm at my age. Maybe we can just cuddle)

HOUSE OF MYSTERY #42 (here for the re-team of House of Secrets’ Seagle and Kristiansen. It is criminal there is no trade of that series)

    HUNTRESS #1

OMAC #2 (threatened to be epic CRAP; delivered a solid GOOD. Nicely surprised.)

SWAMP THING #2 (it is not, to my surprise, called Alec Holland #2)

TUROK SON OF STONE #4 (dinos always get me)

And yeah. if I didn’t have FF 1234 in two different formats already, I’d certainly buy THAT. Superb work from Jae Lee and SuperGod himself. Even better as it includes a fantasticly trippy Nick Fury story from Marvel Double Shot which was drawn in faux Steranko-vision by Manuel Guitterez. Marvel had some guts in pushing boundaries a few years back (this, the Lee /Jenkins Inhumans and Sentry) but that work was almost criminally ignored, being tossed into the marketplace without support. Not sure that afflication has been cured.

Comics! People are talking em and buying them! Comics! Not just for movies anymore!

  5. ACTION COMICS #2 It’s disappointing news to me that Morrison is jumping the book into the present day after just the first six issues, as I think there’s enough in the issue #1 setup to carry the title for years

CASANOVA AVARITIA #2 (OF 4) I loved how loose the first issue was, a welcome tonic after Fraction’s tough summer of Fear Itself ponderousness and off-model voices

OMAC #2 I hope it’s just like the first issue only completely different, if that makes any sense

ROGER LANGRIDGES SNARKED #1 Anything the man makes, I’m there

STORMWATCH #2 I’m giving this book the first arc to win me over–a shorter leash than I would have expected given Cornell’s involvement; but in a world with superhero comics as good as Waid/Rivera/Martin’s Daredevil, there’s no excuse for middling work (or rather, no justification for buying it)

…and I’m hoping that my shop manages to get my copy of Finder Vol. 2 they missed last week.

  6. All of that said, I’m guessing the comic of the week will be Gangsta Rap Posse #2, which I just ordered directly from Benjamin Marra’s website.

  7. JUSTICE LEAGUE is a third week book — which means there are SEVEN weeks between issues #1 & 2, but monthly thereafter.

  8. ACTION COMICS #2
ANIMAL MAN #2 – McMillions is wrong, Travel Foreman rocked it last issue.
DC COMICS PRESENTS BATMAN THE DEMON LAUGHS #1
DETECTIVE COMICS #2 – The Joker took his face…off!
HAWK AND DOVE #2 – I’m not afraid to read a little Liefeld!
HUNTRESS #1 (OF 6) – This is more out of curiosity. I would have thought this was the sort of character to avoid so close to the reboot.
INFINITE #3 – I’m not afraid of a Liefeld double-dose! If I had to choose one Liefeld book, it would be this one though. The guy is teaming up with his younger/older self from the past/future, and featured a character bonding moment where they talked about remembering that girl they both nailed (one more recently), and it was played as a straight emotional moment. It was… EXTREME!
JUSTICE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL #2 – I enjoyed this the second time through, but not on initial read, so it’s on probation.
    MYSTIC #3 (OF 4)
OMAC #2 – Jack did it better, but these kids are alright.
    SEVERED #3 (OF 7)
    SKULLKICKERS #11
SPIDER-ISLAND HEROES FOR HIRE #1 SPI
STATIC SHOCK #2 – Less keen knowing Rozum will leave, but he’s not left yet.
STORMWATCH #2 – Cornell has earned second chances.
SWAMP THING #2 – Something will happen this time, I’m sure!
X-MEN SCHISM #5 (OF 5) – I hope Wolverine beats up that mean Mr.Cyclops so children can have smiles on their faces again!

BAKUMAN TP VOL 07 – It will swirl through your veins like the mix is just right.

  9. BOYS #59
    HUNTRESS #1 (OF 6)
    MARKSMEN #3 (OF 6)
    SKULLKICKERS #11
    VESCELL #2
    WALKING DEAD #89
WARLORD OF MARS DEJAH THORIS #7

SAVAGE SWORD OF KULL TP VOL 02

  10. ACTION COMICS #2
    MEN OF WAR #2
    OMAC #2
    STATIC SHOCK #2

So from a retailer perspective this is kind of a big week, yeah? I am getting all the numbers 2’s that I subbed and I’m also getting MoW 2. I picked that up on a whim and was interested enough to come back to get another look. That’s what’s more important, right?

AVENGERS 1959 #1 (OF 5) – Since JohnK has not yet made an appearance HOWARD VICTOR CHAYKIN!

INVINCIBLE #83 Best month to month super book I buy. Interesting cast, awesome action, Beautifully stylized art…I could go on.

    X-MEN SCHISM #5 (OF 5)
Just wanna check in and see how it all ends. Actually, given Gillen’s recent statement that Colossus’ juggernaut thing was going to be sticking around I’m curious. The X-Men, more than any other franchise seemingly rolls through these status quo changes as a matter of course. That’s always been the rub, however, because all the characters remain unchanged or are ret-conned back to an ur state in fairly short order. Will they get me with the same trick for the 75th time? Apparently.

  11. And on FF 1234 (Which I’ve long championed) I may take the plunge if extras are on hand. My singles have been warn out by various loanings.

To the point made about Marvel “taking chances” I feel like that may have been more of a “Grant wants to do this and we want Grant” kind of thing as opposed to an editorial “direction.”

If I recall the direction back then was to leverage the Quesada cred. and bring top creators. Once they were in you worried about what you were going to get from them.

  12. ACTION COMICS #2-1st issue delivered for me
    DETECTIVE COMICS #2
JUSTICE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL #2- Happy for regular JLI again!
MEN OF WAR #2- The book I’m looking forward to the most this week.
    RED LANTERNS #2
SONIC THE HEDGEHOG #229- For my son.

And I could have swore that I thought Star Wars: Dark Times 3 was out this week. Oh well.

  13. @corey (ottawa):

“Comics! Not just for movies anymore!” is EXCELLENT.

  14. Well, J_Smitty_ said it first and said it best but it bears repeating:

    AVENGERS 1959 #1

    Hooray for J_Smitty_!

There’s no way Howard Victor Chaykin is going to end up selling his blood to pay for medical expenses or ballroom dancing lessons. Not on my watch!

Hope Hibbs Jnr had a nice birthday!
