  1. So, unless I’m misremembering, that’s three issues of Wolverine & The X-Men in the past 4 weeks. In a month when Marvel would (presumably) like people to use some of their comics budget to sample new titles.

  2. Huh, an all Big 2 week for me.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #698–As we approach issue #700 the tension is ratcheting up towards whatever “big event” will happen in the anniversary issue. My prediction: Norah Winters will die. Anyway, Superior Spider-Man looks like a train wreck (new darker Spider-Man, with toe claws–ugh!). I’ll get the first issue of two just to see but am already assuming I’ll drop it.

DAREDEVIL #20–The novelty’s worn off but this remains an awesome read, with art that is not only beautiful but intelligent, well-thought out, appropriate to the subject matter.

HAWKEYE #4–Still buying off the rack, still good but not sure if ready for a commitment. My comments on Daredevil’s art above apply here too, except this feels a little more gimmicky. Still, if issue #4 continues to pique my fancy I’ll probably add to the pull list.

INDESTRUCTIBLE HULK #1 NOW–I’m trying this one out. But it’d better be pretty damn good for $3.99!

SWORD OF SORCERY #2–This has been a pleasant surprise. I’m buying it off the rack for now. Also (please note this Marvel), a $3.99 price tag doesn’t make me gag when it comes with two features for a total of 30 story pages.

  3. LAST WEEK
    ARCHER & ARMSTRONG (NEW) #4
    BATMAN #14 (DOTF)
    BLOODSHOT (ONGOING) #5
    CONAN THE BARBARIAN #10
    INVINCIBLE #97
PUNK ROCK JESUS #5 (OF 6)
    SAGA #7
    SAUCER COUNTRY #9
    SUPERBOY #14

In summation it was an extremely juicy week. Whoever this is inking RB Silva is f’ing it up to an extreme – not good. Invincible had the most amazing – jaw dropping – insane twist I’ve seen in a comic this year. Maybe in several years. Also mark this down as the week where I fell completely off the Punk Rock Jesus bandwagon. The gorgeous art absolutely could not save this hilariously indulgent wank story. Let me say, I think he’s working his ass off and I appreciate that and the price value and the black and white “experiment” is something I would support again in a heartbeat but I gotta call this one like I see it. I’ll finish the series to see how he lands it but it’s not good.

    THIS WEEK!

    BPRD 1948 #2 (OF 5)
    GLORY #30
ROCKETEER CARGO OF DOOM #4 (OF 4)
    WONDER WOMAN #14
    X-O MANOWAR (ONGOING) #7

  4. I haven’t been to the comic store in a while and likely won’t be for another week or two, but I did want to talk about why Daredevil has gone from critical darling to “ugh.” There have been too many issues! I was telling someone recently I wish Matt Murdock would just stay home and watch a Blu Ray or something. Does he have to get involved in some complex plot every waking moment? Less is more.

@J_Smitty – I haven’t read Punk Rock Jesus, but no one should be writing their first story as a commercial venture at a “mainstream” entertainment company. It’s not going to end well for anyone.

  5. Back from travelling the Sunshine State and needing to get caught up.

    LAST WEEK:

BATGIRL #14 – maybe this will actually tie in. Or maybe not.
BATMAN #14 –hopefully nobody tells a joke
CONAN THE BARBARIAN #10 – Crom!
GREAT PACIFIC #1 – looking forward to this
GREEN LANTERN CORPS #14 – That the solicits for the GL family books are already hyping the Next Big Cross Over seems to lead me to believe that “ZOMG! Third Corps! Things Will Never be The Same Again!!” may not be totally truthful advertising.
LORD OF THE JUNGLE #9 – this would be a totally different book if it were not shot from the pencils. Nice classic quality to it.
MASSIVE #6 – superb stuff, and just keeps getting stronger.
    MIND MGMT #0
    SAGA #7 – welcome back!
    SAUCER COUNTRY #9
SUICIDE SQUAD #14 – Harley and Mistah Jay! What could go wrong?
TARZAN ONCE & FUTURE ONE SHOT – Tom Yeates on Tarzan is pretty damn perfect
    THINK TANK #4
WALKING DEAD #104 – stay in the house, Carl.
ZAUCER OF ZILK #2 – I like my cray-cray English style.

    And THIS WEEK!

BATWOMAN #14 – JH3 is back, and it sure is purty, even if I have no clue why the cut-rate Jonah Hex is mixed up with a Medusa.
DAREDEVIL #20 – agreeing with Chris Hero and J_Smitty: over shipping has made this book less than it should be. Although it is still objectively pretty damn good, my reaction to it has totally changed.
GLORY #30 – spectacular book. Truly great stuff.
HAWKEYE #4 – wows me technically, but hasn’t grabbed me yet.
HELLBLAZER #297 – Damn. Three to go.
INDESTRUCTIBLE HULK #1 NOW – My first NOW so far. Buying it for Waid. I will be around at least to see the Quintronic Man come back in #3, out of love for the original Hulk #213
JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #646 – Sif!
JUDGE DREDD #1 – Stay at your location, a judge is en route.
ROCKETEER CARGO OF DOOM #4 – ray guns and dinosaurs.
STAR TREK ONGOING #15 – Evil Spock with a beard!
SUPERGIRL #14 – Asrar is the gem of the 52.
SWORD OF SORCERY #2 – two good stories, and very strong art.

BACK ISSUE #61 – Treasury sized edition revisiting Bronze Age treasuries, under an Alex Ross homage to that classic Grell Legion cover! Yes, Mister Lester, there’s an article on Cap’s Bicentennial Battles too! Preview here: http://twomorrows.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=1035

  6. LAST WEEK:
I went off the list I posted last week – didn’t try any of the X-Men #1′s, but did try Fantastic Four and Thor #1 – I thought FF hit a few bum notes, but showed promise, whereas Thor #1 was my book of the week. I think I like Jason Aaron the super-hero writer better than Jason Aaron the vertigo writer these days!
I managed to avoid picking up Batman #14, and haven’t felt the urge to read it, so I’m hoping I’m now free of Capullo’s excellent art getting smothered by Snyder’s endless droning and glacial pacing.
Conan, Saga, Massive, Wolverine & X-Men, Zaucer of Zilk, Saucer Country and Demon Knights were all good.
Was a little let down by Great Pacific – had only seen the opening scene in previews, and the art was never as good again.

@chris hero – I completely disagree with your idea that no one should write their first at either of the big two – I think it’s exactly what they need more of. I don’t think PRJ has any rails to come off as it’s been all over the shop in theme/style/plot since the first issue, so I’m not sure what turned J_Smitty off in this issue, but at least it feels like the creator is having a blast, and actually trying to express himself (even if he’s hitting basic targets).
It doesn’t feel like something a hundred different writers or editors have had a say on, but nor does it feel like an Image book about serial killing vampires written/created by someone who has seen both Dexter and True Blood (and drawn by someone rejected from Boom).
Murphy is drawing what he wants, taking aim at the targets he wants, and he’s joy in the book is infectious. If Vertigo had been letting more creators cut loose like this, the line would seem much more vital to comics than it does today.

    THIS WEEK:
CAPTAIN AMERICA #1 – This has been my most eagerly anticipated of the NOW! books.

CLONE #1 – I’ll give the first ish a shot.

DAREDEVIL #20 – Was “Ugh” for me around the time it hit double digits and had crossovers, but it’s been aces since.

DEADPOOL #2 – Hmmm, I enjoyed #1, but wasn’t expecting more so soon. Moore’s comedic style was the appeal, but how long will he be on with this schedule?

EDGAR ALLAN POE CONQUEROR WORM ONE SHOT – Corben.

    GLORY #30 – Coolio.

HAWKEYE #4 – I’m with Thelonious Nick and Corey (Ottawa) – still not entirely sold. Each ish has been good, but there’s always something that rubs me wrong… And it’s never in Aja’s art.

INDESTRUCTIBLE HULK #1 – Waid on Hulk could work well.

JUDGE DREDD #1 – I’ll be amazed if they pull it off, but I’ll give them a chance.

JUSTICE LEAGUE #14 – #13 was the best of the series, the first that felt like a story rather than plot points, and Daniels art was great, so hopefully this matches.

MIND THE GAP #6 – Forgot to take off my standing order. Won’t happen again.

NUMBER 13 #0 – I’ll give it a shot. I’ve enjoyed other books that have spun out of DHP.

REVIVAL #5 – The image small town horror book that actually intrigues me.

ROCKETEER CARGO OF DOOM #4 (OF 4) – Waid and Samnee. Twice in a week!

    THE SPIDER #6 – I’ve fallen behind, but wish I hadn’t.

WOLVERINE AND X-MEN #21 – Two weeks in a row? Seems excessive, but I really enjoy it.

WONDER WOMAN #14 – Keeps on trucking.

BATMAN JUDGE DREDD COLLECTION HC – I had one as a kid, and remember enjoying it. With Wagner and Grant on board, I’m sure these are entertaining.

BLEEDING COOL MAGAZINE #1 – Heh. I wanna see how this plays out.

NEXUS OMNIBUS TP VOL 01 – Probably not this week, but I’d like to try Nexus out. Never been able to get into it through the recent stuff, so maybe from the start works best.
