  1. Oh hey, Rasl’s still being published.

  2. I’m thinking that ALL-STAR WESTERN might just be my favorite of the new 52 titles. Grabbing that, I VAMPIRE, JL:D, SHADE, SECRET AVENGERS, the GHOSTS collection, and probably one or two things I forgot I signed up for.

  3. These are waht I will be buying in their non-polybagged analog glory:

ALL STAR WESTERN #3 (yes, this really is FROM HELL done with Jonah Hex. That’s still better than most things, though)

AQUAMAN #3 (it’s doing its job. Not sure this is High Art but it’s been effective comics. That said, there are NO characters in this; it’s all basically told in cinema shorthand)

AVENGERS ORIGINS SCARLET WITCH AND QUICKSILVER #1 (Hopefully this creeps me out less than the Ultimate versions do. I skipped last week’s CAGE, although Iloved the Vison of two weeks ago, being a 70s child. A nice series that is 25% too expensive and serves no purpose. Marvel, don’t ever change…)

DMZ #71 (all over but the crying)

DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS #13 (last issue was pretty damn near perfect)

HELLBLAZER #285 (a book that just keeps getting better and better. THIS MAN…THIS TRENCHCOAT has been awesome. And creepy. And sad. Occassionally sexy. And always scary. Great stuff)

I VAMPIRE #3 (I think this is nice stuff. But I like Jae Lee to pieces. )

JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK #3 (a bit ensure how/why I can love ‘Blazer so much but be tepid to this. But I am. Hope it picks up and soon….)

ROCKETEER JETPACK TREASURY ED (It’s a Treasury. It’s the Rocketeer. I’d walk over broken glass to buy this)

SHADE #2 (while I suspect this has been in the can/the works for YEARS, who cares? Good stuff)

SUPERMAN #3 (Nice dense stuff. Feels like I’m actually getting a comic, and not just a few moments/scenes. That may not be enough to sustain readership over the long run, but it is a refreshing change right now)

WARLORD OF MARS DEJAH THORIS #8 (yes: space pirates in metal pasties. Don’t judge)

SHOWCASE PRESENTS GHOSTS TP (I only occasionally bought the DC horror books, but when I did it seems I always chose GHOSTS. Wonder how the horror nostalgia holds up)

  4. Aquaman #3:
A very pretty comic to look at. Decent writing too! Pretty straightforward action and solid character bits. Nothing groundbreaking, but solid good comics. I still wish there were a little more content per issue, it’s pretty decompressed. But I never imagined I would look forward to reading Aquaman, so congrats to the creative team.

    Flash #3:
Ah ah! He’ll save every one of us! (guitar riff). And that’s what this issue will be about, apparently, him saving every one of us. Another pretty comic to look at with the solid writing. Hooray for Week 4! This comic is visually dense (in a good way) – it takes some looking and even a little thinking (ack!) to figure it out.

So this old Marvel Zombie is buying DC floppies vs Marvel in about a 4-1 ratio. I still love Marvel’s back catalog, though, but nothing there for me this week.

  5. ALL STAR WESTERN #3
AQUAMAN #3 – This just needs to pick up the pace a bit.
DC COMICS PRESENTS LIFE STORY OF THE FLASH #1 – I’m not sure what this, but I’m in!
FLASH #3 – Manapul! Francis Manapul! Have you ever seen such a fast evolution into greatness?
INFINITE #4 – AWW YEAH! This shit just got EXTREME!
    JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK #3
SECRET AVENGERS #19 – The first Ellis issue was really awesome. The others, much less so. If this isn’t up to scratch, I’m off this one.
    SHADE #2 (OF 12)
    SUPERMAN #3
    TEEN TITANS #3
VOODOO #3 – I’m not getting it, but I did get #2. Hoo-boy. Voodoo shape shifted into the body of the agent she murdered in #1, and had it off with his tough-girl partner/f-buddy, who is now the one hunting her down. If it wasn’t glacially paced, this could have been great.

  6. BPRD HELL ON EARTH RUSSIA #3
Been buying and stockpiling these so this should mean it’s go time – yes?

    FLASH #3
Man!-apaul is quite good, isn’t he? I think it’s interesting / cautionary to see that FM is doing so well with Flash (a fairly straightforward A plot and powers development) and Van Sciver (even with Gail Simone) is making a bit of a hash of the Firestorm reset.

    INVINCIBLE #85
In this issue Ryan Ottley does awesome things and Robert Kirkman continues to develop a deep and amazing early spidey-like cast. I refuse to believe monthly deadlines can’t be met if the busiest / most successful guy in the pseudo independents can get it together and deliver month after month on time and ahead of schedule.

    SHADE #2 (OF 12)
Robinson was surprised this didn’t come out as solicited. Feels like a loooooong wait for #2

    JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK #3
Pretty to look at. Milligan will always get a first and second arc from me if I choose to buy issue 1. I didn’t go in for Red Lantern but this has a lock on my money for a little bit yet.

  7. My uber-efficient LCS will doubtlessly be saving these for me:

    ALL STAR WESTERN #3
(If I was writing this I’d have a Canadian suspect called Bester Crown. This is why lawyers love me.)
    COMIC BOOK COMICS #6
    (Comics about comics!)
    DARK HORSE PRESENTS #6
(All the old dudes! And some new ones too!)
    HELLBLAZER #285
(Finally an explanation for those horrible years I endured in the ‘90s! It wasn’t that I was a moron – it was my Oxfam overcoat! Phew!)
    JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK #3
    (I don’t know about this, I just don’t know.)
    RASL #12
(Tesla really is a bit like the Wolverine of alt-history comics isn’t he? In that he’s ubiquitous not in that he solves every problem by stabbing it and then feels sorry about it. )
    SCALPED #54
(Some people don’t like this. Those people are the kind who dislike films about talking pigs. Exactly.)
    SIXTH GUN #17
(Ruined plantations always make me think of that film where Clint Eastwood gets his leg cut off by those sexually frustrated schoolgirls and then they poison him with mushrooms. Pink Cadillac?)
    USAGI YOJIMBO #142
(A consistently excellent comics experience! That’d be a good name for a comics shop – “Consistently Excellent!”)
WARLORD OF MARS DEJAH THORIS #8
(I reckon it’s 50/50 those scantily clad ladies solve their differences with a good wrassle.)

If I was rich I’d get these too:

    Books / Mags / Stuff

MILK & CHEESE DAIRY PRODUCTS GONE BAD HC

SHOWCASE PRESENTS GHOSTS TP VOL 01
(I have a penchant for DC “mystery” comics even though they are rarely any good. The art’s usually nice though. The best one I’ve found is House of Mystery #180 where a pretentious oaf called “Gil Kane” murders his editor for dissing his art but then is trapped in a page of his own artwork. It’s drawn by the real Gil Kane and is funny as Heck. Not Don Heck – he isn’t in it, pay attention! Anyway I’m a pushover for this stuff. And Gil Kane.)

Remember to give thanks for COMICS!!!

  8. Brian, have you seen NEXT week’s invoice yet? It’s my smallest in years.

Apparently, the one thing DC forgot to include in their relaunch plans was “What to do when there’s 5 Wednesdays in a month.”
