  1. So what is special about the new Sandman, besides being able to find a copy, having forgotten it came out weeks ago?

  2. It’s Sandman. It’s written by Neil Gaiman. It’s drawn by JH Williams.

  3. This is a fine week of comics!

BLACK SCIENCE #1–Definitely, it looks very promising.

CONAN PEOPLE O/T BLACK CIRCLE #2 (OF 4)–Flip-through. After the first issue, I can’t decide if I like the art or not. Conan looks just a little too…stocky.

    FF #14–Yep.

INDESTRUCTIBLE HULK #16–This one is close to being dropped. First issue of the new arc, if it doesn’t impress mightily, this title’s gone. I know I sound like a broken record, but at $3.99 I’m a lot less forgiving of rough patches.

    SAGA #16–Of course.

WALKING DEAD #117–This is both the title I most look forward to and the title I most dread reading when I get the new comics stack.

  4. David–I believe the Sandman “Special Edition” that’s out this week is a high-quality/high-expense reprint of the issue that came out a couple weeks ago.

  5. Last week:
Zero #3! Those who read it need no more to understand my point. If it wasn’t excellent, it was at least very good. I’m shocked by the silence surrounding this series from critics/comic sites. This should be the it book of the year. Perhaps they are all waiting for the trade?

I ordered and received Simon Hanselmann’s “Life Zone” in the mail, featuring his characters Meg, Mog and Owl. Really funny stuff. Reminds me of when I first read Scott Pilgrim, and thought ‘this has everything I love in it’, and ‘this is perfect comics’ – so you can measure the shifts in my life/tastes between these two works. Hanselmann puts strips up for free on tumblr, as GirlMountain, so you should check them out then order is from Space Face Books.

BLACK SCIENCE #1 – I’ll give it a flick. I’ve liked some of Remender’s books, but not others.

FIVE GHOSTS #7 – Mooneyham is back on art! Mooneyham is back on art! Sorry writer, but you don’t count on this book. Mooneyham is back on art!

HAWKEYE #14 – If I remember. I’m like three or four issues behind because I either forget to pick it up, or it sells out.

MASSIVE #17 – The Massive Vs Northlanders. Why not?

MAXX MAXXIMIZED #1 – I’m intrigued, but not really enough to read it again in singles. If I don’t still have my original collection, I can remember the series vividly, so there’s not much appeal for me to buy it monthly. Might grab this one to check production, then wait for a nicely designed trade.

MIND MGMT #17 – Too much good for me to describe.

SAGA #16 – 16? Has it been that long? Still feels fresh every issue.

  6. Ben Lipman: Congratulations! Your distress has been noted and your request has been logged and duly processed by our systems. A copy of the comical periodical ZERO#3 is en route from an LCS to a random Savage Critic.

Please note this Critic is assigned by a sophisticated randomiser you could not even begin to understand. Consequently, the comic may not be assigned to your first, second , third or even fourth personal choice of critic. However, every effort will be made to ensure it is not that English git with the superiority complex. It probably won’t be Douglas Wolk though.

We thank you for your continued patronage.

  7. …and a great week it is (with the added bonus of it being PREVIEWS week, which always feels a little bit like getting the Sears Christmas Catalog).

LAST WEEK: ZERO #3 was super, AFTERLIFE WITH ARCHIE #2 was almost as good as WALKING DEAD, and SEX CRIMINALS #3 had mne laughing out loud. Poor Morrissey.

Last week I also powered through the first five issues of GHOSTED, and man, that was some seriously good work. Loved it. Great atmosphere.

    THIS WEEK:

ALL STAR WESTERN #25 – actually, I’ve read this already and it disapointed. Jonah was a hoot, Constantine was not.

BLACK SCIENCE #1 – do that vooddoo you do so well.

HALF PAST DANGER #6 – two fisted, pulp action. With dinosaurs.

JUDGE DREDD #13 – that “Brendan McCarthy doing Kirby” cover is worth your four bucks.

JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK #25 – you know what the best thing about the old Bronze Age JSA/JLA teams-ups was? They were short. Three issues, sometimes only two. 4EVER EVIL is good enough, but dragging. Interested to see where the ‘swamp thing’ plot leads.

LETTER 44 #2 – Jumping on after my store didn’t order any #1.

MASSIVE #17 – Ben Lipman wins the Internets. But now thanks to last issue, I know why minke whale steaks were available all over Iceland.

POWERS BUREAU #8 – has been tight. And timely. And Deena always makes me laugh.

PRETTY DEADLY #2 – behind on reading #1, but it sure seems to have generated polzarizing reviews.

SAGA #16 – hate it. “lying” Poor old The Will. Finding happiness is never as easy as all that.

SHADOW #20 – Was not impressed with ‘the Light’ arc, which has driven me to put this book ON PROBABTION. That #19 came out just last week makes this DOUBLE PROBATION, albeit not the secret type.

SLEDGEHAMMER 44 LIGHTNING WAR #1 – Nazi fighting the way I like it.

STAR TREK ONGOING #27 – The bad guys showed up last issue…and its not who we thought it was. Still have hopes for a Klingon-Romulan war.

TALON #13 – this book has snuck into my buy pile. Like an owl in my attic.

THIEF OF THIEVES #18 – Diggle, you sly bugger. That caper took a turn I positively did not see coming. Now I just HAVE to read this.

WALKING DEAD #117 – WAR, what is it good for?

X-FILES SEASON 10 #6 – Flukeman is back. That episode scared the snot out of me.

    BOOKS N SUCH:

JOKER CLOWN PRINCE OF CRIME TP – a great oddball Bronze Age treasure for your ha-ha-hacienda.

COMICS! It’s what I’m thankful for, despite Canadian Thanksgiving being in October!
