  1. I just want to say – those Artist’s Editions from IDW are things of beauty.

  2. Last Week:
Decided Avengers #3 had been awful and Hyperion makes me sleepy, so dropped Avengers. Also decided to ditch Mara as #2 didn’t look as though it advanced things much further than the first issue.
Thankfully, Joe Kubert Presents, Saucer Cunty, The Massive, Glory, Prophet, Witch Doctor and Batman Inc were there for me, and bringing the goods.

    This week:

ALL NEW X-MEN #7 – I just looked at a preview/solicit for #8, and it sellls it’s plot on something that actually already happened in #6, so I can’t imagine too much happening in this one! It works better with Immomen, but surprisingly, it does work without him.

DETECTIVE COMICS #17 – I just pretend this is an old bat-title from the 90’s that I’m rediscovering. I can just nod and smile as it pays lip service to some event, and then gets back to it’s plots about bat-villains.

    DIAL H #9
EARTH 2 #9 – If only all the nu52 had been as new as these two.

MUDMAN #6 – Whoo-hoo! Been quite awhile between issues and I was getting worried. This will be a joy.

MULTIPLE WARHEADS ALPHABET TO INFINITY #4 (OF 4) – Shame it’s the end of the mini, but if short runs keeps the quality this high…

    SNAPSHOT #1 (OF 4) – I’ll give it a flick.

  3. LAST WEEK!
Didn’t make it in to the store, so I’ll be looking for these THIS WEEK:
BATMAN AND ROBIN ANNUAL #1 – Sounds really fun
DOCTOR WHO PRISONERS OF TIME #1 (OF 12) – Sounds ambitious
SIXTH GUN #28 – I know how this sounds: awesome
    And actually THIS WEEK:
ANIMAL MAN #17 – This is a maybe, but since Rotworld’s finally actually at last rapping up, I might get it. See also SWAMP THING #17

FEARLESS DEFENDERS #1 – Haven’t cottoned to Cullen Bunn’s Big 2 stuff the way I have SIXTH GUN (which again, is awesome) but I’ve always liked Marvel’s superheroines & I’m a sucker for anything with Defenders in the title

GARTH ENNIS RED TEAM #1 – This will take a cursory flip-through to sell me. Not really a fan of “here’s Garth’s new title that he will only write the 1st arc of, never to be heard from again”

LEGENDS OF THE DARK KNIGHT #5 – Slam Bradley=Slam Dunk! At least I hope so

SCARLET #6 – I feel like Bendis’ creator-owned books are a hobby that he comes back to every so often and he’s totally into for a while, until he’s not and leaves his model train town half-finished, again. But I did like the 1st arc

SNAPSHOT #1 (OF 4) – Ben Lipman, I’ll be flickin’ through this at the store too

SON OF MERLIN #1 – This sounded intriguing enough, certainly for a dollar

SWAMP THING #17 – Was about to drop this off the pull list, but that there’s an end to this interminable Rotworld thing is pulling my strings along. A little disappointed that Snyder had this one note to his run, but not surprised

In the Books category, if I had the coin I’d probably buy the DAVE STEVENS ROCKETEER ARTIST ED, but I don’t. And I’d highly recommend NEW DEADWARDIANS TP if you weren’t among the 8000 folks who bought the singles

  4. LAST WEEK

    BATMAN INCORPORATED #7
So…he really killed him. Sad. Very sad.

    INVINCIBLE #100
Hrmm. I was hoping for a very different outcome. Seems a backward step in such a forward thinking environment. As ever, worth it to see where it goes.

    MARA #2 (OF 6)
I think this is a really good legit futurist take on sports and culture. The flying girl might put a wrench in that but as I was the one panning the ever loving crap out of The Massive for going nowhere and doing nothing I feel this is a strong step in the other direction.

    THIS WEEK!

    DIAL H #9
    The madness deepens.

    EARTH 2 #9
Loved the Sandman team at the end of last issue. Khan as the hero and “White Psycho” Mr. Terrific as the inside villain have made for a really cool power dynamic. Also, I am fully behind the slow boil of bringing Flash, Hawkwoman, and Green Lantern together. Take your time, man.

    GARTH ENNIS RED TEAM #1
Since I haven’t been able to partake of Ennis’ Fury Max I have to admit the shakes and chills have become really burdensome.

    HELLBOY IN HELL #3
Well, it’s totally disappeared up the mythology wazoo but I’m so in love with the BPRD family I’m buying it.

MULTIPLE WARHEADS ALPHABET TO INFINITY #4 (OF 4)
Word is Multiple Warheads will be kind of a pick it up / put it down vehicle for Graham to do 4 issue stories. Not sure if they’ll follow the same characters.

    SNAPSHOT #1 (OF 4)
Well, if everyone else is doing it…

    WORLDS FINEST #9
Last issue was really good but I deeply hope they abandon the “Arab Evil!” streak…

    NEW DEADWARDIANS TP
Lot of people big-upping this one so I might pick it up this week.

  5. “A lot of great comics out this week!”

Don’t you mean a lot of great-looking comics? We don’t know yet if they’re any good.

  6. ANIMAL MAN #17–It looks like this has the true wrap-up to Frankenstein, which oddly wasn’t in the last Frankenestein issue. That’s okay, this is a title I don’t resent picking up now and then.

DIA DE LOS MUERTOS #1 (OF 3)–This looked like it could be awesome in Previews, so it’ll get a flip through.

    DIAL H #9

FEARLESS DEFENDERS #1–Flip-through. I like Valkyrie and Misty Knight and really want this one to be good but my expectation for the actual experience is pretty low.

GREAT PACIFIC #4–Still picking up off the rack. It’s on the bubble. Better when it concentrates on the garbage heap in the ocean, god-awful boring when he get the flashbacks.

SNAPSHOT #1 (OF 4)–No idea what this is, but I trust the other reviewers know what they’re talking about… I’ll give it a look.

SWAMP THING #17–The whole Rot thing is one of the better cross-overs I’ve read, but it’s streeetcched oonnn toooo loooong. I think this month it’s wrapping up, right?

  7. “Saucer Cunty”

    Awesome! Woulda sold better, probably….

  8. LAST WEEK:

ALL-STAR WESTERN dusted itself off and gave me some dirty fighting and guns a’blazin’. Not sad to see Mr. Hyde go (Eclipso??! seriously?!) nor will I miss this particular back-up, which really suffered from its newsprint style colouring. A really good issue art wise for Moritat, just gorgeous stuff.

MARA #2 was OKAY, but I won’t be back. The fact that nobody seemed intersted in her having super-powers, and yet it was a GLOBAL SCANDAL she was a ‘cheater’ was something I can’t reconcile. If Lance Armstrong could fly, we would be talking about more than his stiff acting in “DodgeBall.”

RED LANTERNS #16 – felt really dashed off and rates a solid EH, except for the scenes with Bleez which were AWFUL.

HAWKEYE was also surpringly EH for me, as I guess I just didn’t connect to the story.

ARROW #3 was a low GOOD, with some nice beats making good use of the shorter format. Not that happy about the price tho.

SHADOW #9 was my Book of the Week, but I have yet to get to GLORY (which sounds oddly religious…. Amen brother Campbell!)

    THIS WEEK:

AVENGERS ASSEMBLE ANNUAL #1 – I really, truly love the Vision, who has been used and abused since those Bronze Age days when he was the star of the Avengers. Not sure Bendis’ version will synch with my expectations (to be blunt), but I’ll give it a try. Starngely hooked by the preview where the Vision appears to be meta-griping at the treatment he got in Disassembled…..

DAREDEVIL END OF DAYS #5 – hoping for some plot.

DIAL H #9 – I agree with J_Smitty and Ben Lipman; a new book trying new things.

FEARLESS DEFENDERS #1 – much like James Woodward, I’m game for a Defenders try, esp with Valkyrie.

GREEN ARROW #17 – Yay the new team arrives! Lemire is hot on Snyder’s heels as the writer-saviour of DC, and Sorrentino has been killing the art on I VAMPIRE. Very excited for this, as Ollie is probably my favorite character in all of comics, and has deserved better than he has been getting.

HUMAN BOMB #3 (OF 4) – really nice Ordway art, which seems, I dunno, less stiff? not as over-wrought? more Perez? Anyhoo, good hook on the character and then straight into the action, which has really worked. I am so tired of characters sitting around angsting over what to do with their powers, when they could be blowing stuff up.

MULTIPLE WARHEADS ALPHABET TO INFINITY #4 (OF 4) – aw yeah.

SCARLET #6 – preordered (and paid for) this book in February 2011, two years ago exactly. Shameful treatment of fans, all while being asked to support the ‘personal stories’ of the creators. DROPPED FOREVER and the first ASSHAT Award of 2013.

SNAPSHOT #1 (OF 4) – okay, I’m not saying I’m on the vanguard of taste or anything, but I ordered this as I have been reading parts of it. It’s a b&w strip by Diggle and Jock which has been running in the British JUDGE DREDD MEGAZINE, and is being reprinted by Image. Slacker finds a cell-phone containing pictures of a murder, and gets pulled into intrigue. While it was fun see the book go viral here, it *is* Diggle and Jock so you KNOW it will be great.

THINK TANK #5 – nice twist at the end of the first arc has me back.

Comics! There’s something for everyone, so don’t quit looking so easily. Your eyes deserve better.
