  1. New GOON trade!!! YAY!!!!

  2. BLACK BEETLE #2 (OF 4)–The first issue was enjoyable, but I’m not quite sure I need to get ‘em all. I’ll flip through this one and see how it looks.

CAPTAIN AMERICA #4–Still diggin’ Dimension Z. JRJR’s art is even more…JRJRier than usual, which works well here.

CONAN THE BARBARIAN #13–The current “Black Pearl’s crew gets a bad case of the flu” arc is perhaps not the most exciting Conan story ever. Hopefully we’ll be back up to speed with this issue.

    DAREDEVIL #23–Still great.

HAPPY #4 (OF 4)–So in February, I’m getting 7 Image titles. Granted only two are ongoings (Saga and Walking Dead), but still this is unprecedented. As recently as a couple years ago, Marvel had by far the greatest portion of my comic dollar, today Marvel is down to #3. I wonder how many other comic readers have made similar adjustments in their reading habits?

HOLLOWS #3 (OF 4)–Somehow missed issue #2 of this. #1 was a nice mix of Japanese woodcut-style art and steampunk. If the LCS has #2 in the back issue bins I’ll probably try to catch up.

    SAGA #10–Hell, yes.

SWORD OF SORCERY #5–Sad to hear this is being cancelled when it hardly had a chance to prove itself. But isn’t it supposed to be replaced by a Beowulf ongoing?

  3. LAST WEEK:

BATMAN might have been my Book of the Week. This book ahd been spiralling somewhere I did not want to go, but Snyder brought it back.

GARTH ENNIS BATTLEFIELDS #4 reminds that war is indeed hell, and scored a GOOD.

HIGH WAYS #2 was pleasingly GOOD in a way that seems so very dated.

KATANA #1 was beautiful to look at – truly – but I could not figure out what was going on. Inpenetrable first issues kind of deserve an AWFUL.

POWERS BUREAU #1 was a real return to form, and rated a solid GOOD, even if it was overflowwing with Bendis beats.

STAR WARS #2 and STORM DOGS #3 were both OKAY enough, but I wanted more than that. Maybe it’s the malaise of the sequel news, but I sort of found myself wondering what I am hoping to get out of a Star Wars comic?

and after WALKING DEAD #107, can I suggest we make that an actual holiday.

THIS WEEK, well despite ALL THREE Green Lantern books and both main JL books, I’m going to be buying:

BLACK BEETLE #2 – Francavilla seems really excited by this on his blog, so I guess I am too.

CONAN THE BARBARIAN #13 – seems to have been a while between issues, but I need to catch up.

DAREDEVIL #23 – Samnee did a great job of Stilt Man, and thus: I am happy.

DARK HORSE PRESENTS #21 – speaking of tied to an era….Gaiman and Chadwick! Once upon a time, people would have camped out for this. NOTE TO JEFF LESTER: Carla Speed McNeil is in this too.

INDESTRUCTIBLE HULK #4 – slip, sliding away….#3 took the concept out for a spin, and it was …okay? But I can see me dropping this soon.

JUDGE DREDD #4 – continues to be satisfying and true to the core. I wonder if keeping to shorter stories helps give it that ‘authentic’ feel. Nice stuff.

JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #1 – I ordered the DC flag, for when I used to be Corey(Washington)

LEGION OF SUPER HEROES #17 – I have such a soft spot for the Fatal Five…but this book seems to be in trouble.

LORD OF THE JUNGLE #13 – nice classic illustration and lush backgrounds are what I want from a Tarzan comic.

    MIND MGMT #8

MORBIUS LIVING VAMPIRE #2 – yeah, immadummy, but missed that this was Joe Keatinge. How was issue #1?

    SAGA #10 – ooooh.

SHADOW YEAR ONE #1 (OF 8) – I’m sure this will be nice enough, but KUDOS to Dynamite for FINALLY letting customers CHOOSE the cover they want. Hope this leads to reducing the overall number.

SHERLOCK HOLMES LIVERPOOL DEMON #2 – well done. Just a bit RUSE-ish, but that’s okay.

SPAWN #228 -gonna be honest, just buying it because I collect ACTION COMICS #1 homages. Time to see what this Spawn fella is all about.

STAR TREK COUNTDOWN TO DARKNESS #2 – Voices of the crew haven’t been this good since Peter David.

SUPERGIRL #17 – H’el has got to G’o. A useless storyline is flattening this book, which had been about Kara, not about “the Superman Family.” Asrar keeps on delivering though. That Flash fight scene was great.

SWORD OF SORCERY #5 – That STALKER appeared filled me with nostalgia, I loved those house ads from the 70s, with that Ditko art…The main feature and Constantine was NOT very good, however. yeah, it was pretty AWFUL, actually. Still, be saddened to see this go, even if to date, it has just been building backstory.

YOUNG JUSTICE #25 – and another FINAL ISSUE. My daughters love the cartoon, but that looks like toast too. No kid friendly gateway anywhere for DC these days.

    and the best for last:

HELLBLAZER #300 – and what a run its been. We’ll miss ya, Johnny. Cheers.

COMICS! I’m not crying, I just got something in my eye, likes.

  4. sorry for the double-double all.

  5. LAST WEEK:
I sat down and read America’s Got Power’s #1-5. Great series. Deserves to be a roaring success, or at least not such a flop.

Wolverine And The X-Men #25, which had a big #25 on the cover, made me miss the days where ‘anniversary issues’ were a bit bigger, had a complete tale, or something dramatic happen – the book was fine, but the cover had me expecting more. Uncanny X-Men was a good start – Bachalo’s art was very clear, but his colouring choices very bland.

Got caught up on the last two issues of Saucer Country, and think they were two of the best yet.

Gave Wood’s Star Wars another shot, and found #2 much more interesting, so I’ll probably give the series a whirl for an arc or two.

    THIS WEEK!

ACTION COMICS #17 – Almost there.

BLACK BEETLE #2 (OF 4) – I think I understand why Thelonious_Nick doesn’t feel the need to get the lot, but I’m a bit different. I want as much of Francavilla doing his pulp riffs as possible, even if it isn’t the most original or ground-breaking.

CONAN THE BARBARIAN #13 – This better be fight filled to make up for the “crew catches a cold” debacle.

DAREDEVIL #23 – Best ongoing superhero book going.

DEADPOOL #5 NOW – Maybe. I enjoyed the first couple of issues, but the joke of Deadpool fighting and killing dead presidents had definitely run out of laughs by #4, and there’s two more parts to go.

    HAPPY #4 (OF 4) – I’ve enjoyed this one.

INDESTRUCTIBLE HULK #4 – I can’t tell if Waid is writing this in a rush, or if he and Yu have different goals, but something hasn’t fully clicked yet. I enjoy it enough as a blast of action (although it’s not good enough for $3.99).

    MIND MGMT #8 – Whoo!

NOVA #1 – I like me some Ed McGuinnes art, and have enjoyed dumb-fun Loeb comics before.

NUMBER 13 #3 – I didn’t realise that this was due out, and emailed my retailer to get it dropped from my order this morning (along with Bedlam and Haunt). Had a great #0, reprinting DHP stuff, but the series didn’t look as good or retain the charm.

    REVIVAL #7 – Yeah!

    SAGA #10 – Whoo Yeah!

THOR GOD OF THUNDER #5 – End of the first arc, so let’s see if they land it, and keep me around.

WONDER WOMAN #17 – Maaaaaaaaaaaaybe. Just feels like it began to tread water five or so issues ago. No plot progression, just people standing around.

  6. Oof. Big week.

Action Comics – Morrison. That pretty much covers it.

Avengers – It’s not nearly as brilliant as it thinks it is, but for the first time in his career, Hickman seems to be giving characters dialogue that matches their personalities. i’m down with that.

    Daredevil – Waid + Samnee = blisssssss.

Happy – Morrison. That pretty much covers it.

Harbinger – Valiant is KILLING it, you guys.. KILLING it.

Hellblazer – Goodnight, sweet prince. You’ll be missed.

Justice League – hell, I may drop this one soon, I dunno. Ivan Reis draws a super pretty Justice League, though.

Revival – If a certain Mr. K Vaughan hadn’t made a certain triumphant return to comics this year, REVIVAL would be the best comic Image was putting out. Period.

Saga – Brian Vaughan is the best working comics writer today. I truly believe this, with all my heart.

Supergirl – oh my god h’el on earth needs to not be a thing anymore.

Thor God of Thunder – Oh man. This is such a perfect Thor book, I don’t even know where to begin. If Aaron and Ribbic keep this up, we’re talking about a run that will be mentioned in the same breath as Simonson’s. Yeah, I went there.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – I love this comic, but I totally just picked up the last issue, like, a week ago? Two, maybe? I need my turtle love a bit more spaced out, please and thank yew.

Comics! Sometimes they punch you in the wallet!

Oh, and Ben Lipman is right – America’s Got Powers is totally great and everyone should be reading it.

  7. I was on vacation and utterly divorced from reality but Saga 10…Oh jeez…my emotional response.

I’ve been told that I am largely dead inside but, I swear, my feelings had feelings.
