  1. This is a week typified by the amount of bizzare crazy I’m buying.

BATMAN ODYSSEY #6 – this issue looks full on, weapons-grade CRAZY. Haven’t been reading, but its Adams and Deadman, so I’m there.

CAPTAIN AMERICA HAIL HYDRA #2 – Cap fighting zombie Nazis should be a hit with me, but not so far.

FREEDOM FIGHTERS #6 – Another crazy, zany, madcap book, but so much fun, and the art has been stellar.

LEGION OF SUPER HEROES ANNUAL #1 – it’s got Mr. Keith Giffen, so good potential for the crazy.

IZOMBIE #10 – this is stellar stuff. Seriously great work.

  2. AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #653 BIG
    BRIGHTEST DAY #19
    SUPERBOY #4
    SUPERMAN 80 PAGE GIANT 2011 #1

BATMAN THE RETURN OF BRUCE WAYNE DELUXE ED HC – It will be hard to fight the urge to use a texta to rename it ‘Time Fucker.’
    DAYTRIPPER TP

  3. LSH Annual – liked the little trip Giffen took back to future in “Booster
Gold” much better than the reanimated, defrosted Earth-One (but not really) that replaced the Waid/Kitson reimagining of the Legion. For old times sake.

    Superboy 4 – Very good.

Last week: Immonenless New Avengers is a sad thing.
Age of X: Alpha. Long ago chased off the X-Men characters, save for Whedon’s dabbling. Gave this a shot given the online abstract.horrible, depressing, trite…this territory is exhausted beyond recovery.
JLA: little bit sad to see Bluejay go. Lots of very good bits and pieces- especially Donna. This would be a terrific JSA lineup. Don’t know that it works as JLA…hope this isn’t to be Lobdell’s book…

  4. I’ll be having:

    BATMAN ODYSSEY #6
(Tearing the legs off ’Coherent’ and beating it about the head with them until it laughs.)
    IZOMBIE #10
(Not really grabbing me, but Allred? And soon: Gilbert Hernandez? Okay.)
    JONAH HEX #6
(Ain’t reading Jonah Hex? You got no sand, boy!)
    SUPERMAN 80 PAGE GIANT 2011 #1
    (Ayup.)
    SWET TOOTH #18
(Still reeling from the gut punch last issue. Dude, some of us are parents! Go easy!)
WITCHFINDER LOST & GONE FOREVER #1
(John Severin! He’s still got it, sweetcheeks. In spades.)

Comics! They look good to ME!

  5. TEZUKA + BLACKJACK = 100% AWESOME!!!

  6. Thanks, Brian.

Kind of curious about that Tomine book, Scenes from an Impending Marriage. I run hot-&-cold with Tomine but I liked that little humor strip about the internet being mean or whatever, that he did for that McSweeneys newspaper. More in that style might be nice.

  7. I’m adding: SCENES FROM AN IMPENDING MARRIAGE HC , because unlike Abhay, I love everything Tomine!

And I’ll probably read it on my trip to my sisters wedding.

  8. Mildly bummed that Severin, who I dearly love, is doing WITCHFINDER and not Ben Stenbeck. But love the protag and the world, so I guess that unbums me…

  9. I was probably going to skip this week, since the only thing I’d purchase from the above was the from the vault Doctor Strange, but f$%^ yes I’m going in to buy Abhay’s s!@#! So maybe I’ll try other things:
BATMAN ODYSSEY #6 (OF 13): Completely underwhelmed & confused by the 1st issue, everybody seems to hate it, but Neal Adams & Deadman, I dunno, maybe
DOCTOR STRANGE FROM MARVEL VAULT #1: Yeah, this is the one. Perhaps clouded by my adolescent buying habits, Roger Stern’s run on Doc in the ’80’s remains my favorite run of one of my favorite characters, coupled with artwork by Neil Vokes, who never went anywhere but I wish that he did
iZOMBIE #10: The 1st issue was OK. Enjoyed the Allred artwork and as with pretty much all his work, was never that compelled to go further. But the concept seems fun
JONAH HEX #64: I think it’s cool beans that DC publishes a Western comic that doesn’t sell very well just so they can claim diversity, and it’s a good enough read & gets some great artists, so maybe
JUDGE DREDD MEGAZINE #306: I had fun with the 300 issue(s), so depending on what graphic novella they bag with it & what the employee at the register thinks is the UK exchange rate (I’ve got some good deals on saying “How much is this?”), perhaps
LEGION OF SUPER HEROES ANNUAL #1: LSH is one of those things that I want to like, but usually don’t. I bought the finale to The Great Darkness Saga when it came out and loved it, but I didn’t like other Levitz/Giffen issues I sampled. I’ll echo Seve in his admiration of the Waid/Kitson 3boot, the only time I really got on board
SUPERBOY #4: It may be time to look in on this again. I was very charmed by the preview in Action, and the 1st issue was good enough, but did not hook me
SUPERMAN 80 PAGE GIANT 2011 #1: If Abhay’s story approaches a 10th of the lunacy that was in his Bram Stoker’s Dracula, it will surely override whatever drek fills out the rest of this
SWEET TOOTH #18: Hello again, Jeff Lemire! I liked the 1st 3 issues of this I bought, was probably buying too much at the time & perhaps didn’t give it a fair shake. I like that Vertigo is publishing more “alt” things like this, & this is supposed to be a stand-alone, so why not?

  10. I loved Abhay’s story.

    That is all.

  11. “Everybody dies! Especially You, Jimmy Olsen!”

“But… Illegal clones means unstable clones.”

    Loved it.

    Especially the side ways page.

  12. There should be a separate post to discuss the charm and fun of Abhay’s story. Lacking that, I’ll say right here it was charming and fun, with an above-the-titles little scene that was perfect, classic Superdickery, followed by a story that felt very fresh, while clearly making sweet monkey love to the legions of zany Jimmy Olsen stories past.

Please write the entire Superman line. Thank you.

  13. Oh, hey, thanks– that’s very kind of y’all to say. Especially because– “Illegal clones means”– I think I screwed up the subject-verb agreement there, you guys. I’m sure you all noticed. The way it’s written really sounded right in my head though! I only caught for the first time on Wednesday when I had the book in my hand– boy, did I blush…

Sorry about that. (Part of me is joking! Part of me is not! Which part will win???)

How pretty was that book, though? Lot of nice art; Dan McDaid! Coover-Tobin!; I liked the Kleid/Haspiel story– the enthusiasm there was noticeable; it’s a nice thing to be in such good company.
