  1. LAST WEEK

After a nice vacation and an excellent week of comics – ****SPOILER**** (BKV you b@stard, NOOOOOOOO!) – We’re back to exact our brutal revenge.

    BATMAN INCORPORATED #8
Hoping for another bang on chapter. Preview pages look to be laden with Burnham-y good choices.

    PROPHET #34
You know, I really love that Graham seems to spend the lion’s share of his promotional excitement on the back-ups in Prophet. You can tell he really, really enjoys getting that material in there. I haven’t liked them all but I can definitely appreciate the charge he must get from that material.

    NEMO HEART OF ICE HC
I’m going in for all the new generation of loeg material thanks to comixology.

    Happy motoring!

  2. BATMAN INCORPORATED #8

FF #4–This has snuck up on me and is now one of my favorite titles. It’s so cute but without being cutesy, and I’ve kind of fallen in love with Allred’s She-Hulk. She’s like a really fierce Kermit the Frog!

FIVE WEAPONS #1 (OF 5)–Preview makes it seem like this could be awesome, I’ll give it a flip-through.

HAUNTED HORROR #3–Collects old non-EC pre-code horror stories. Definitely gets a flip-through. Nice because it’s a good pick-up for a light week, but you’re not missing an ongoing story if you leave it on the rack.

HAWKEYE #8–I likely won’t get this, but I would like to just point out it appears to be a Valentine’s Day issue, two weeks late?

WITCH DOCTOR MALPRACTICE #4 (OF 6)–Still awesomely gruesome and scary, but I’m not sure this story really needed to be stretched over six issues. My feel is that it should be wrapping up this month, yet there are still two isues to go….

  3. Brian is right: there used to be weeks not that many years ago where I had only a single book I was even mildy disposed to read; some weeks had no books at all. Pretty much every week for the last few years has had some awesome. This is a good time to be reading, chums.

And since reviews ran long last time (but holy schniekies did Asrar do some absolutely gorgeous work on SUPERGIRL! you must buy this!), I’ll just cut to THIS WEEK:

ALL STAR WESTERN #17 – liked last issue, and hoping this book can jettison the continuity baggage and get back to being a Western.

ARROW #4 – this could totally work on tee-vee.

BATMAN INCORPORATED #8 – I missed calling in to vote, and look what happened! Noooooooo!

BEFORE WATCHMEN DR MANHATTAN #4 – I am going to call DC and complain about a misprint.

COMEBACK #4 – another intriguing Image book.

FF #4 – Has the fun, has the love. Has the thing armour from my favorite Perez run (starting at #170), although there seems to be lots of internet grief over Fraction ‘inventing’ such a silly concept. And it has the Machine that Goes Boop Boop. FULL OF WIN.

GUARDIANS OF GALAXY #0.1 – I miss the DnA run already.

HAWKEYE #8 – I like this alright, and sometimes love it. But I’m not sure I see it as the paragon many others do.

I VAMPIRE #17 – the loss of Sorentino really killed last issue, although he was super on Green Arrow (spoiler: Gareme was totally wrong in his review).

MARVEL UNIVERSE ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #11 – Ty Templeton doing the Super Skrull. Nuff said.

MASKS #4 – I had thought this was a mini; I seem to be wrong. It has morphed from being the cross-over among the pulp giants by Alex Ross to being Project Superpowers. Not sure I have it in me to stay long-term.

MASSIVE #9 – issue 8 went to a dark place…I’d like to see a bit of optimism creep back in. One of my favorite books going.

    PROPHET #34 – awesome.

    ROCKETEER HOLLYWOOD HORROR #1 – the rocka-who?

SAVAGE HAWKMAN #17 – not my usual fare, to be sure. But that Shadow Thief cover tickled some long forgotten memory of reading a DC Four Star Spectacular with Hawkman and I had to order this.

STAR TREK NEXT GENERATION HIVE #4 – big delay between 3 and 4. I guess we will find out whether resistance is futile, or not.

THE LONE RANGER #13 – Tonto arc is finally over, so let’s hit the trail get back to some frontier adventures.

ULTIMATE COMICS X-MEN #23 – Wood now; Asrar next issue. I am buying X-men again.

2000 AD PACK JAN 2013 – five Progs in here, all for ~$20.

SUPERMAN VS SHAZAM TP – bronze age awesome, even if I have the Treasury and those DCCP issues.

Comics: Otherwise I’d just do laundry on Wednesdays.

  4. UNCANNY AVENGERS #4
    UNCANNY SKULLKICKERS #1
    UNCANNY X-FORCE #2
    UNCANNY X-MEN #2
That’s way too many uses of that adjective for one week of comics…

    2000 AD PACK JAN 2013
So the great 2000 AD weekly US shipping experiment, that worked well.

JUDGE ANDERSON PSI FILES TP VOL 03
The Anderson stuff is the only Dredd related stuff I really like, based on the one book I read (which I guess is only the first half of the first book of this current series). Anyone know if the later stuff holds up?

    NEMO HEART OF ICE HC
Curious to see if this is released digitally, and at what price.

    NEW TEEN TITANS GAMES TP
Might get this, it scratches a nostalgia itch, but not enough for hardcover prices.

SPIDER-MAN DEATH OF JEAN DEWOLFF TP NEW PTG
    Aw, come on! Spoiler alert!

  5. The Dredd Jan13 pack has issues #1813-1817.

  6. LAST WEEK:
I skipped out on Wonder Woman and Number 13, and probably won’t go back for either. WW had nice art when Cliff was on it, and the fill-ins were ok, but the story was just going nowhere. Number 13 didn’t have a great story, and the art was terrible once it left DHP.

Thor #5 was ok, except it didn’t have an ending, yet somehow was advertised and referred to in letter columns as the end of an arc.
Hulk #4 has moved that book seriously close to getting dropped.
Deadpool had a cool cover, so I couldn’t resist, although as suspected, the zombie president gags have ran out of gas.
Nova #1 was fun and I’ll be around for next issue (McGuiness lifts Loeb every time), but Daredevil remains Marvel’s best book.

Happy ended up being a minor-Mozza work with a rather unspectacular finale.
Brian K Vaughn proved he hates us all in Saga.
I just realised I’ve still got Conan, Black Beetle, Action Comics and Revival to go! There goes my afternoon!

    THIS WEEK:

AMALAS BLADE #0 – All I know about this is from the preview, and it has a girl on a pirate ship killing pirates, being told off by her ghost-dad, and a monkey in a hat. I’m in.

BATMAN INCORPORATED #8 – So glad DC decided to spoil the end/twist to the story some of us have been following for six years now. These guys just really don’t want me reading their comics!

GUARDIANS OF GALAXY #0.1 – I’ve not hated his X-books thus far, and I liked Nova #1 last week, so I’ll give Bendis a chance with this. Hopefully someone has showed Sleepy McNiven some Kirby or Immonen art this time around, and introduced him t the idea of “dynamic”.

HAWKEYE #8 – It’s a fun book. Nothing more, nothing less.

JOE KUBERT PRESENTS #5 (OF 6) – The best book DC currently publishes.

MASSIVE #9 – If you think Bendis is bad, The Massive STILL hasn’t even appeared in this comic.

PROPHET #34 – I really wish Liefeld was playing the Stan Lee/Roy Thomas 70′s/80′s card, and pretending this is where he always saw the character ending up.

UNCANNY SKULLKICKERS #1 – I’m glad it’s back. Good laughs, and fun fight scenes ahoy.

UNCANNY X-MEN #2 – Hopefully, we finally get to spend some time with people sympathetic to the main characters, like the main characters themselves.

WITCH DOCTOR MALPRACTICE #4 (OF 6) – Thelonious_Nick knows the score.

YOUNG AVENGERS #2 – I’m the only one, thus far, giving #2 a go? I thought this would be an internet darling by now.

  7. 4 books that start with Uncanny? Doesn’t that pretty much go against the definition of uncanny?
