  1. Holy cow, it’s a big week.

ADVENTURE TIME #1 – I am late to this particular bandwagon, but I watched some eps on DVD and it was pretty fun, and Ryan North writing it seems like a perfect match.

    CAPTAIN AMERICA #8

CONAN THE BARBARIAN #1 – I’ve never been particularly a Conan fan, but the creative team makes this interesting — the preview pages look great.

    DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS #15
    JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #634

SECRET AVENGERS #22 – wasn’t that crazy about the Point One issue, but Remender is usually pretty solid, Hardman too, and the cast looks like fun.

THIEF OF THIEVES #1 – Don’t know how this’ll turn out, but I figure it’ll be worth a look.

    WOLVERINE AND X-MEN #5

  2. (Whoops — Memorial and the Unwritten should be on my list as well. Like I said, big week!)

  3. Big week for me too, with 6 whole books!

CONAN THE BARBARIAN #1: I’ll pick up anything by Wood and Cloonan’s images of Belit are simply amazing. If this can top the Busiek/Nord run, then it’ll be a sure-fire hit.

NORTHLANDERS #48: Also from Wood, with art by Zezelj, series ends at #50!

WOLVIE & X-MEN: ALPHA & OMEGA #2: The title is such an unbearable mouthful. One good artist and one not so good, but I’ll probably see it through to the end.

SECRET AVENGERS #22: #21.1 was awful, but I’ll give Remender and Hardman one issue here to hook me in.

BATWOMAN #6: Best book DC is publishing. It’s 1 of only 2 of the New 52 I’m enjoying.

BERLIN #18: Are these coming out more like quarterly now?

  4. ALL NEW BATMAN THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD #16 – Last issue :/

CAPTAIN AMERICA #8 – Mostly for Alan Davis. Brubaker’s CA series has gone away from the darker character-driven plotting and spy roots the run was originally built on, and Steve/Sharon are infinitely less interesting characters then Bucky/Widow. Now its just boring superhero stuff, decompressed to hell. Winter Soldier is the new hotness, Captain America is old and busted.

CARNAGE USA #3 (OF 5) – Still waiting to see what happens with this one. Wells pacing makes Brubaker look like Slott.

    CONAN THE BARBARIAN #1 – Wood/Cloonan

JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #634 – Kid Loki

PUNISHERMAX #22 – Final issue :/ I have NO IDEA what’s going to happen, and that is a rare feeling in mainstream superhero books these days.

SCARLET SPIDER #2 – I’m sticking with this book. Yost has a good handle on Kaine, and Stergman’s artwork is great. I think this is gonna be a very dependable book month in and month out, going forward.

SECRET AVENGERS #22 – I echo the sentiments stated above, that I wasn’t a big fan of the point one issue, but lets call that a mulligan and start over again. When Remender has a good artist and given free reign to do his long-form plotting(as all the interviews point towards), the man can work magic. And Gabriel Hardman is a damn good artist. This should be one of the better books Marvel has going forward.

WOLVERINE AND X-MEN #5 – Speaking of one of Marvel’s best book, FINALLY we get WATXM #5. I adore this book. It takes aspects from so many beloved X-men runs and eras(Claremont, Morrison’s New X-men, Milligan’s X-Statix, Remender’s already hailed Uncanny X-Force), and it builds on them in new and interesting ways. Its got big ideas, but never skips out on the character beats. It’s the X-men you love, but not like you’ve ever seen them before. Every issue I come away smiling like a goofball and ready for the next one immediately.

WOLVERINE AND X-MEN ALPHA AND OMEGA #2 – Here’s another neat idea for a comic stretched out to five issues to get more money out of stupid consumers like myself. I think Marvel just REALLY wanted to snatch up Brain Wood and they tossed him on a Wolverine book until they can find some better for him to do. In the meantime, this is ok.

  5. ALL NEW BATMAN THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD #16 –

BATMAN AND ROBIN #6 – This is better than you would expect.

CONAN THE BARBARIAN #1 – Wood/Cloonan. Probably the last two names I’d have come up with for the title, but sounded so right the moment I read it.

    DEMON KNIGHTS #6
FRANKENSTEIN AGENT OF SHADE #6 – This isn’t quite as good as it should be, but I think there’s enough there, and Lemire’s an interesting enough guy, to stick with it.

    HAUNT #21
INCREDIBLE HULK #5 – When #1 came out, I’d have lost money in a bet on whether I’d be getting #5.

LEGION LOST #6 – Pete Woods deserves a medal for doing art good enough to keep me on board.

MISTER TERRIFIC #6 – There was potential in this book that I doubt it will ever fulfill now it’s been canceled. I’ll stay till the end, though.

SCARLET SPIDER #2 – The first issue had fun art, and a nice reversal of Amazing Fantasy #15, so I’ll give it a chance.

    SEVERED #7 (OF 7)
    SUPERBOY #6
    THIEF OF THIEVES #1
WOLVERINE AND X-MEN #5 – I’d not liked this title at all after the first two, but tried #3 to see what got the podcast all excited about it… I can see it now. I’ll grab #4&5 and see how it is.
(I was ready to say goodbye to Uncanny X-Men, but tried #4 after it got good reviews. Might have to try it some more as well!)

  6. ALL NEW BATMAN THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD #16 – bittersweet here, as this is the last issue. I cannot imagine why, its fun with tight Bronzey Age storytelling and the OUTRAGEOUS Bob Haney-esque awesome that makes the cartoon essential. My daughter (6) loves it, but I guess it’s Not What Kids Want These Days. Nor is Tiny Titans, beloved of my 4 year old fdaughter, apparently. John K has posted elsewhere, as has Graeme, about how to get kids in comics. Dear DC: my daughter has asked me who is cooler, Kamandi or OMAC. She thinks Black Canary, Zatanna and Huntress are all kinds of great. So: what is she supposed to read? CATWOMAN?

BATGIRL #6 – not really what I expected from a Gail Simone batgirl book, but nonetheless strong.

BATWOMAN #6 – looking forward to Amy Reeder.

BTVS SEASON 9 FREEFALL #6 – That was quite a last page reveal, wasn’t it? Unlike some properties, Buffy is keeping the story fresh, by actually moving ahead a plot. GASP!

CONAN THE BARBARIAN #1 – Yeah, Wood/Cloonan. DEMO v2 #3 with the post-it notes is probably the single best thing I read last year. Runner up was All New Batman: The Brave and the Bold #13. I’m still mad at you DC.

DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS #15 – just a great, fun book.

GREEN LANTERN #6 – I like this book, even if it is ripe with all the Johns tropes I say I hate. Don’t judge me.

HUNTRESS #5 – beautiful art, and a crisp voice for the narrative from Levitz.

KEVIN SMITH BIONIC MAN #6 – This seems to be missing some punctuation in the title. Well, after last month’s reveal of the powers of a BIONIC FACE (that happened! It did, go check) it’s fight time! The solicits for the series seem to hint that it is wrapping up, or maybe Dynamite doesn’t know what pentultimate means. I’m okay with things winding down, despite the appaling oversight of the ICE TUNNEL WHERE COLONEL STEVE AUSTIN FOUGHT BIGFOOT. But looking forward to Paul Tobin on Bionic Woman. Bring on the Fembots.

NORTHLANDERS #48 – love this book. Of course, its being cancelled by DC Comics.

SUICIDE SQUAD #6 – It’s Harley Time. This book is way better than the covers, or the outfits, would ever lead you to believe.

SHOWCASE PRESENTS GHOSTS TP VOL 01 – I never really was into DC horror’s books, but when my slurpee fueled brain needed some spinner rack frights, it usually seemed to be GHOSTS. Looking forward to some old-timey goodness until the Showcase Weird War gets here for Christmas 2012.

So, if one is keeping track that is DC 8 books, Dark Horse 2, Dynamite 1, IDW 1. And Marvel gets shut out again.
