  1. BATGIRL #18–I guess Gail Simone is back on it? Hopefully this can go a few issues without being involved in a crossover now.

    CHANGE #4 (OF 4)

FEARLESS DEFENDERS #2 NOW–Not actually a great first issue, but not terrible, and I like the characters. When I saw some of the covers coming up, I realized I’d be buying this off the stands every month anyway so I might as well add it to the pull list. The Dani Moonstar action figure cover with this issue is a beautiful thing.

SAUCER COUNTRY #13–The end’s coming soon. DC’s really shedding titles I follow. I’m going to be down to just three titles with them in the near future, and none of them were ones I dropped.

STAR WARS #3–So my son’s verdict after reading the last issue was “not enough action.” I read it and pointed out there were two space battles. He pointed out they were both in the first 10 pages, and the last 10 pages were talky. You’re on notice, Brian Wood–keep it moving!

WALKING DEAD #108–When I was reading the last issue, I had this feeling that Rick’s last moments were coming up soon. Just an idea that popped in my mind. And wouldn’t that be just like Kirkman, to show he could do it? If it happens, you heard it here first!

  2. Also getting FEARLESS DEFENDERS because I’ve liked both Valkyrie and Misty Knight from way back. Bunn’s work on THE FEARLESS spinoff instantly sold me.

Definitely picking up the HAWKEYE collection as I came late to the party.

Very hesitant on AGE OF ULTRON because Bryan Hitch art can’t overcome a jaw dropping per issue price point.

  3. ALIENS VS PARKER #1 (OF 4)
This and the Jason Statham movie, two things Donald Westlake would never have allowed if he were alive…

NAOKI URASAWA 21ST CENTURY BOYS GN VOL 02
This is the last issue, right? Just started reading it a few weeks ago, up to v7 of 20th CENTURY BOYS now, so far so good, we’ll see if I still care 24 volumes in. So far better than PLUTO, never as good as the best parts of MONSTER, but none of the long dry “why am I reading this, again” spells of MONSTER either.

  4. Last Week:
I actually wrote out my picks, and then in a moment of inspiration closed the tab before clicking submit.

I got Age Of Ultron for it’s shiny cover. I love shiny covers. I was young in the early 90’s, and we thought holograms/chromium covers were amazeballs. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t that good. Also, Page 27 totally has a different artist drawing on it – The X-Men appear, don’t match the style or placement of other characters, and aren’t on the next page, even though it’s the same room.

Joe Casey’s first Sex was a little anti-climatic, and I thought the 2nd last issue of Glory was the last one, so probably need to re-read it in that context for a fair opinion.

Earth-2 had the longest single-panel purple prose monologue I’ve seen in a long time.

Bakuman seemed to have some translation problems early in the volume, but it smoothed out in the end. As characters have been debating whether to pad their manga series out or bring it to a fast conclusion, you know we’re heading to the end of this one.

    This Week:

CHANGE #4 (OF 4) – This has been good. I was a little disappointed that the art normalized a bit after the first issue, which had showed some playfulness with the layouts, but hopefully the finale will pack a punch.

MANHATTAN PROJECTS #10 – The end of the last arc was odd. Not sure what to expect now.

SAUCER COUNTRY #13 – Proof that the majority of people have crappy taste?

STAR WARS #3 – I like Wood, and I like this book. However, I have no idea how this is part 3 of 3 – has anything happened the past two issues that constitutes a story? Also, last ish’s last page cliffhanger was weak – it was like a tease that at some point in the future there may be some drama for two characters.

THOR GOD OF THUNDER #6 – I’m not sure how last issue of this was the end of an arc either, only it didn’t grab me in the slightest. This has begun a march towards my chopping block.

    UNCANNY X-MEN #3 NOW

WOLVERINE #1 NOW – Cornell! Davis! Yes Please! Cornell said he’d be letting loose his inner-Claremont, and that #8 is the best issue he’s written – and guys, Cornell wrote Knight & Squire #3! So this must be amazing.
(Knight & Squire #3 has already begun to come true by the way – how long until we use memory DNA to bring Richard the third back to life and he tries to kill us all? Anyone else see footage of that old lady crying over Richard’s skeleton? That was hilarious.)

WOLVERINE AND X-MEN #26 – Two Wolverine titles in one week? This is why I never last that long with you Marvel.

  5. LAST WEEK!
AGE OF ULTRON #1 (OF 10) – So things are so bad that everyone’s a dick except Hawkeye? And Hitch draws great widescreen devastation, but his characters seem mostly off, particularly Luke Cage, who looks like a different person in every panel, and She-Hulk, who’s not very Hulky. But it still had the gravitas that most of these events are lacking. POWERS BUREAU #1 was good too, and I picked up GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #0.1, making 3 Brian Bendis comics I actually enjoyed. Who’da thunk?

HELHEIM #1 – I wanted this but either forgot it or they were sold out. Anybody else pick this up?

SEX #1 – I wanted it, but they were sold out, so I didn’t get any. Ben Lipman said there was no climax, so maybe it’s just as well.

SWAMP THING #18 – This was actually a very satisfying end to Snyder’s über-ROT plot. Probably my jumping-off point, though.

    THIS WEEK!
AGE OF ULTRON #2 (OF 10) – If they throw in some extra pages again, I’ll throw down the $3.99 for it

ALIENS VS PARKER #1 (OF 4) – Written by the NTSF:SD:SUV guys, so I’ll give it a flip through

BATMAN #18 – Probably avoiding this, but somehow I picked up the last 17 issues, so who knows?

BATMAN AND ROBIN #18 – Picked up the last issue on Jeff and Graeme’s recommendation and liked it enough to dip in again

WALKING DEAD #108 – New character! Still, I may just wait and go in next week (it seems most of the good stuff comes out in the 3rd week

  6. Good to see that the first volume of “Mice Templar” is being re-released. For my money, this is the best ongoing series currently being published. I wish more people were reading it (and writing about it). Much better than the similarly themed “Mouse Guard” (which left me cold when I read it).

  7. THIS WEEK!
    ARCHER & ARMSTRONG #8
    BLOODSHOT#9
Both have been good books from the start. I don’t know if I’m in for the Harbinger Wars crossover. It should be a unique challenge for a heretofore excellent editorial direction. Can I keep reading these two (and XO) without NEEDING to read the others?

    SAUCER COUNTRY #13
The reading life of this title has been so strange. I read the first 4-5 as they came read 5-10 (I think, whatever the standalone was) and now I’ve let it build up again.

    STAR WARS #3
Watched Empire last night with my son for the first time and Leia really is pretty skilled. She flies the Falcon in combat like 3 times in that movie.

  8. Batman and Robin #18

    Read it. Seriously.

  9. A day late and a comixology download short.

    THIS WEEK:

    BATMAN #18

    BATMAN AND ROBIN #18

BEFORE WATCHMEN OZYMANDIAS #6 -0 Jae Lee, yes please

    CHANGE #4

FEARLESS DEFENDERS #2 – I would totally buy that figure. Of course I am a big sucker for action figure covers (qv : Angel #26 http://www.comics.org/issue/703214/cover/4/ or Batman: Gotham Adventures #3 http://www.comics.org/issue/62072/cover/4/)

GREEN LANTERN CORPS #18 – sorry to see the show go. But a Red Lantern analog to Mogo is something me and Daughter(Ottawa) will enjoy reading about.

HIGH WAYS #3 – Byrne doing his Byrne thing.

MANHATTAN PROJECTS #10 – has really fallen off in recent months, sad to say.

NOWHERE MEN #4 – seems very “Next Men” to me, but the back issue market disagrees.

ROCKETEER HOLLYWOOD HORROR #2 – J Bone, yes please.

SAUCER COUNTRY #13 – I want to believe.

SHADOW #10 – that Orwell fellow seems a bit odd. But seriously, this book is really clicking right now. Great pulp stuff.

STAR WARS #3 – still waiting for Jaxxon to show.

TRIGGERGIRL 6 #1 – Looking forward to reading at one go. Some nice art, Mr. Noto.

UNCANNY X-MEN #3 – picked up #2 on the recommendation of my LCS, and my, that was some good reading.

    WALKING DEAD #108 – Negan.

COMICS: I need to read them more, not just buy them!

  10. ERRATA. I had actually meant to paste in GREEN LANTERN THE ANIMATED SERIES #12, and not Corps #17. Certainly would NOT let Daughter(Ottawa) read the gore fest that is Corps…..
