  1. I am excited for The Spider #1; Moonstone is really putting out some good books right now! I’m liking Kolchak, Honey West, and Rotten. Do these sell at all for you Brian?

IZOMBIE TP VOL 01 DEAD TO THE WORLD

  3. So many books and not a single one has my interest. I’m very curious to see what the sales are like for Fear Itself. I’m wondering if this will be the event where we see a significant drop in readership. I’m still not even sure what it’s about.

  4. IZOMBIE TPB
(Probably should have been on this from the beginning. I’m just such a sucker for Allred’s (plural possessive?) art.)

    Thunder Agents 5
    (Spencer)

    Batman Inc #3
(Whoops waited till Thursday sold out)

    Starman Omni #5
(Hey, sometimes a man’s got bills to pay)

Brandon, to your point about Fear Itself we (collectively) have been clamoring for surprise so, in a sense, we win. On the other hand if it really is (POTENTIAL MAYBE SPOILER) about Thor’s hammer being split up and snatched by those worthy and unworthy I have to wonder if it’s not just a plot out of Fraction’s brainstorming sessions for his Thor series.

I have to say that while my reading of monthlies is down -WAY down – I still go to the shop. I still buy. I still place orders. I just find myself more and more in prospecting mode. Digging, bin diving, filling out gaps in old runs or the issue after the one I bought when I was a kid.

Probably not the most profitable customer profile for a retailer but there you have it.

  5. Hi, Brian.
I had a eureka brainstorm five minutes ago on HOW TO BOOST COMICS RETAILING IN THE USA: ship comics twice a week, Monday and Friday or whatever.

Cincinnati OH (here) has many comics stores but almost all of them are closed on Monday and Tuesday (because of the Wednesday fixation.

One other idea: stay open late at least one night a week for folks with weird schedules.

    What looks good to YOU?

    –D

  6. BATMAN #708- My favourite of the Batman books.

BRIGHTEST DAY #22- though I’ve enjoyed this series and really liked that it came out twice a month, will Johns be able to wrap the story up in the last 3 issues?

  7. J_Smitty_ nails it:

I have to say that while my reading of monthlies is down -WAY down – I still go to the shop. I still buy. I still place orders. I just find myself more and more in prospecting mode. Digging, bin diving, filling out gaps in old runs or the issue after the one I bought when I was a kid.

Like him, I have REALLY been feeling the bronze age love. They almost always cost less than current books, and have more pages, and tons more story.

But on to today’s books! It’s not all bleak:

ADVENTURE COMICS #524 (it’s Bouncing Boy. On the cover of a comic. Corey says – Don’t Ask, Just Buy It! But seriously, a nicely done issue last time. Jiminez draws team books like few do)

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #656 (I could not care less about the armor, or about him heading to join the Eff-Eff. But it’s Marcos Martin on Spidey)

    DMZ #63

NORTHLANDERS #38 (Paris vs Vikings; wonder how this turns out..)

SPIDER #1 (Okay. Small publishers, we need to talk. I love the pulps. And I’m very happy you guys are trying to keep these important nostalgia characters going. BUT when you fail to launch a book on time, and keep cancelling #1, it drives your customers away. They won’t order. Maybe they’ll pick it up “later”. You spook the LCS owners too, and they won’t risk tying up cash. It’s bad when it’s something from the Big Two; it’s fatal when an indy does it.)

SPIRIT #12 (and this bit of gritty-but-never-grim pulp ships every month. Nicely done work it is, too. It’s one of those books which gets left out of the longbox for a while, as it never quite feels like I’ve read it *enough*. Just a great texture to the whole thing.)

THUNDERBOLTS #155 (is Marvel TRYING to kill this book with crossovers? It would be nice if the actual PLOT could have two or three consecutive issues. Frustrated. “Drawing the Line at Wasting my Time!”)

WARLORD OF MARS #5 (This is a nice little book. Very faithful to ERB. Dear Dynamite: quit it with the covers.)
