  1. Batman Inc? Captain Swing? Comic Book Comics?

    I refuse to believe it.

  2. Looks like somebody’s been changing his listing methodology!

ALL NEW BATMAN THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD #5
(I like this and so does Ma Boy. I like that.)
    BATMAN INCORPORATED #3
(Batman installs a new salary system but finds the free text entries are spoiling the data quality!)
    DOC SAVAGE #12
    (Doc goes to Dignitas.)
    DOOM PATROL #20
(Cancelled and so living on borrowed time! Oh wait, that’s the other bunch.)
    IZOMBIE #11
    (It’s okay.)
    NEW AVENGERS #10
(O, Howard Victor Chaykin! I do this thing for you! Only for you!)
    PUNISHERMAX #11
    (All fighting issue!)
    COMIC BOOK COMICS #5
(Heh. Should be an eye opener)
WARLORD OF MARS DEJAH THORIS #1
(I can practically hear you judging me. All of you.)

Comics! They can’t cancel ’em all!

  3. COMICS ILLUSTRATED HISTORY OF COMIC STRIP ART HC
I remember meeting Jerry Robinson at a convention almost four years ago and he said this was coming out soon…

JOHN STANLEY MELVIN MONSTER HC VOL 03
Fun stuff, completes the run of the series.

  4. BATGIRL #19
    BATMAN AND ROBIN #21
    BATMAN INCORPORATED #3
    JUSTICE LEAGUE GENERATION LOST #21
    SUPERBOY #5
    VERTIGO RESURRECTED FINALS #1
GARTH ENNIS JENNIFER BLOOD #2 – Though I may wait for trade.
    LIL DEPRESSED BOY #2

  5. Oh right I forgot that BATMAN INC was $2.99 now. Awesome, I can keep buying it then.

  6. I’ll be getting Batman Inc, so I will.

I’m tempted by the Vertigo Resurrected thing, it depends on if I want to eat and pay the bills, really! But, you know I’ve got a bag of carrots, maybe I don’t need any more food?

  7. ALL NEW BATMAN THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD #5 (My daughter’s favorite comic! and fun for Dad’s too. Deceptively sophisticated story-telling here)
BATGIRL #19 (that last issue was pitch-perfect. And tasted like Christmas)
DOOM PATROL #20 (gasp –choke– No!)
IZOMBIE #11 (Always dependable, and always gorgeous)
    ZATANNA #10 (dear ti!)
COMIC BOOK COMICS #5 (I’ll see you in court!)
WARLORD OF MARS DEJAH THORIS #1 (Joining JohnK(UK) in shame)

  8. The Prince Valiant book trumps the whole rest of the field. I’m also getting Batman, Inc. and Comic Book Comics.

  9. Corey, John

I really loved that Sean Chen cover for Dejah Thoris. It mimicked the Frazetta quality of having slight facial details and stood apart largely b/c it didn’t depict her as a huge amazonian boob pin-up like the rest and (imo sadly) the interiors.

Checked the preview and page one or two is a gratuitous ass shot so, you know, strike two in a sense but the pages kept “turning” in newsarama preview so I’ll likely give it a good look.

    Cole,

Definitely going to get the Val book. I could just pore over those. Raymond and Foster. Titans. The broth is getting mighty thin the further and farther we travel from those two.

Mr. Lipman – Sell me on Superboy. You have two “moments.” GO! haha.

  10. Well Mr. was Smitty is now J_Smitty,
I can’t speak for Corey (Ottawa), but I certainly wasn’t suggesting WoM:DJ was something everyone should pick up. The stuff I like isn’t always the stuff that is good. I have learned this much. And hey, sometimes I ain’t such a classy guy, what can I say?

I won’t see WoM:DT it for a while (I get one delivery a month so I’m usually playing catch-up with everyone here, and I don’t do previews)but given that I don’t think pulp can actually be lurid or sensational enough I am kind of hoping visually for Gil Kane’s supple eroticism dappled with Frank Robbins’ sweat beads and text as torn from the mind of a horny 14 year old with an unaturally vast, yet archaic, vocabulary. Yeah, I know it won’t be like that but it might be!

I should really, really buy the PRINCE VALIANT since Mr. Cole Moore Odell and yourself are both correct in your evaluations. I’ll look into doing that to salve my tatty conscience.

What about pamphlets Mr. was Smitty is now J_Smitty, aincha getting any?

  11. The first two Prince Valiant volumes singlehandedly taught my youngest son how to read. He took one look at them and couldn’t not know what was happening. He moved from those to The Hobbit, which is pretty good for a 7-year-old. So thanks, Hal Foster and Gary Groth.

  12. No negative vibes intended, John. I like a bit of sex appeal with a goodly amount of my illustrated entertainment. I was merely mentioning that the “side by side glazed hams” within the first two pages did not bode well for the interest piqued by the Chen cover. Cognitive dissonance created by one style on the cover and a completely different look inside has long been one of my more well worn gripes. Happy hunting and let us know when you receive the issue.

  13. “Mr. Lipman – Sell me on Superboy. You have two “moments.” GO! haha.”
Smitty, the two selling points for me are – Jeff Lemire and Pier Gallo.
You’ve probably not heard of Gallo – I hadn’t – but his art feels a bit old school, a bit Quietly, and he likes to try interesting lay outs.

Other than that, it’s a hard book to sell – it’s not got anything stand out about it, it’s just really well done – much like the Johns/Manapul Adventure Comics run with the character preceding it.

Although, in #2, they beat the villain by splicing Parasites genes with some frogs, to create purple ‘Parasite Frogs’!

  14. J_Smitty, no negativity taken, sir. I was just footling about, also: I liked “glazed hams”.

Cole Moore Odell – that’s lovely. Really, really lovely.
