  1. My top comics for the week are the conclusion of “Providence” and the “2000 AD 40th Anniversary Special.” Since I couldn’t go over to England to celebrate, the 40th anniversary special will deliver my celebratory thrill power fix.

Otherwise, “Hawkeye,” “Motor Girl,” and “They’re Not Like Us” continue to float my boat.

  2. Pretty light week, but with a couple question marks.

    BLACK CLOUD #1–flip-through

    ELEANOR & THE EGRET #1–flip-through

HAWKEYE #5–A GOOD series. I like that Kate puts all her energy into helping others even as she can’t get own life in order, or even a sign for her office. A lot of fun.

ROYALS #1–I don’t mean to be snarky, but does anybody care about all this Inhumans stuff? I’ve met a lot of comic fans in my life, and I don’t recall ever coming across a die-hard Inhumans reader, you know? If this was just another revival of a mid-list character a la Howard the Duck or She-Hulk, maybe I could see it, but Marvel’s been pushing the Inhumans like crazy for two-three years now.

    WALKING DEAD #166–VERY GOOD

  3. Providence comes to an end! Yay and boo! I’m happy to read the conclusion, but I’m sad this likely marks the end of Moore making comics. Oh well. I still have Jerusalem to read!

YAY for Love & Rockets abc Paper Girls!

  4. Was Providence as gross and rapey as the miniseries that preceded it?

  5. DEATHSTROKE
    KILL SHAKESPEARE

    I am not usually a Freudian, but…

  6. 2000 AD 40th ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL — New ZOMBO??? Can’t wait! And whatever, I guess there’s some other stuff in it too.

The long wait between issues killed my enthusiasm for SUN BAKERY, but it it’s in store, it gets a flip-through. Also BLACK CLOUD and ELEANOR & THE EGRET (thanks for reminding me, @Thelonious_Nick).

Any indie comix fans out there — I had the good fortune to get to a book signing for Ron Rege’s WHAT PARSIFAL SAW, and it’s really a delight, collecting some mini-comics and other odds and ends in a beautifully designed package. Crazy, head-spinning esoteric ideas drawn with childlike wonder & simplicity. Definitely recommended.

@Thelonious_Nick, I’m a serious Inhumans fan only to the extent that I’m a serious Kirby fan — I’m not sure they’ve ever really worked in anyone else’s hands. But it’s no secret that Marvel corporate resents the fact that a bad licensing deal puts the whole X-Men / mutants line of character under Fox’s control for movies/TV for the foreseeable future. The promotion of the Inhumans concept is clearly seen as an alternate / parallel way of doing “mutants” in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, hence the relentless flogging of the characters in the comics in an effort to “develop” the story material.
