  1. Avengers vs X-Men #3:
By every objective standard, this book is crap. But looking at the preview pages on-line, I think it’s veering into “so bad it’s good” territory. Cap as much as says to Wolvie “But enough talk. Let’s fight!” and there’s a hilarious panel with Cap punching Wolvie in the face screaming “You’re not listening!”. Is it unintentionally hilarious, or intentionally so? The tone of that ‘Vs’ book and the obviously dopey nature of the whole enterprise has me wondering. Also, would it be considered child abuse if I enlarged that Cap-Wolvie-“Not Listening” panel and put it on my fridge where my kids can see it every day? Watch it guys…

    Daredevil #12:
Still good, still buying. By every objective standard, this book is good. But I’m not as in love with this title as most, only because I like my comics to be more cosmic and wild and out-there zany. Yes, a comic about a blind guy with a radar sense who wears a costume and fights crime is way too realistic and down-to-earth for me.

    Earth 2 #1:
I have no idea if I’ll like this or not. Just needed something to replace OMAC. I’m sure it won’t be as good as that…

  2. Picking up Dial H #1 and Mind the Gap #1. As long as they are decent, they will join Saga and the two Sonic the Hedgehog books (which I subscribe to from Archie) as my only floppies, since I decided to go to collections with the relaunched Powers FBI.

  3. This week it’s all about:

    SPIRIT WORLD HC

    “Prophecy! Reincarnation! Haunting! Black Magic!”

    1970’s never before collected “KIRBY”!!!

    How many sleeps until Christmas?

  4. DAREDEVIL #12 – God, I love that cover. Sexy, but classy. Chris Samnee is here to replace Marcos Martin, and after Khoi Pham fill-in next issue, he’s gonna be rotating story arcs with Paolo Rivera, so hopefully this book can back to being the consistently awesome book it was back in 2011 and not this crossover/fill-in fest it’s been for most of 2012.

AVENGERS VS. X-MEN #3 – I’m getting this just to keep up with things, and that’s the worst reason to pick up a comic, folks. Don’t be like me when you grow up.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #685 – Last issue really sold me on this story, as it bounced along full of energy and humor, like I’d had hoped this event would be about. It’s not Spider-Island, but it’s shaping up to be a great story in it’s own right. I hope it keeps it up.

FURY MAX #1 – Ennis, Max Universe? No brainer

VENOM #17 – Similar to his idol Spider-Man, Flash Thompson has his own Sinister Six to worry about, but from all intents and purposes its gonna be a more personal kind of story and not the globe-trotting adventure ASM is doing. I haven’t been convinced Cullen Bunn is worth all this trouble Marvel is going through to put him over, but let’s see where this goes.

WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN: ALPHA AND OMEGA #5 – I read the first issue of this mini. It was fine, but it read like it would be better suited to reading all the issues together. So, I’ve waited until this week when the last issue hit, and now I plan to knock all five of them out to see the whole story. Here’s hoping it was worth the wait!

THE DEFENDERS #6 – The news of McKelvie replacing Dodson has reawaken my interest in this book, along with the last two issues being rather good. I’m not that big of a fan of this issue’s artwork, however it does focus on Danny “Iron Fist” Rand written by Matt Fraction, so this comic has my complete attention on that front! There’s a lot of big things and mysteries going on with this book, and I hope it can stick around to see it all come to fruition.

INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #516 – God, last issue sucked ass. Just like the last issue of Stark Resilient sucked ass. That’s the problem when you’re doing this huuuuge 50+ issue narratives; the smaller stories can’t really conclude with any sort of power. There’s a bunch of explosions, nobody really gets hurt, they shake their fists and live to fight another day.

  5. Since when did Wolverine become the go-to guy for killing anything and everything, anyway? How was he going to kill Hope if Hope is possessed by a godlike cosmic force? Was he just going to grunt at her and wave his knifey-hands?

  6. AVENGERS BLACK WIDOW STRIKES #1 (OF 3)
    BLUE ESTATE #11
    BOYS #66
BULLETPROOF COFFIN DISINTERRED #4 (OF 6)
    PIGS #7
    RED SONJA #66
    RED SONJA WITCHBLADE #3
    THE SPIDER #1

    AMERICAN VAMPIRE TP VOL 02
    DOGS OF MARS TP

  7. ACTION COMICS #9: Finally, a change of pace from the interminable Brainiac story. My “Nu 52″ list is dwindling fast, and it’s largely due to the epic padded story arcs. I’ve already dumped ANIMAL MAN, SWAMP THING, BATWOMAN, WONDER WOMAN is on thin ice — and ACTION would be too, if I wasn’t a GM junky. (Compare the first 8 issues of this meandering mess to the ground covered in the perfect done-in-ones and two-part gems of the first 8 issues of ALL-STAR SUPES. No, don’t bother it’s no comparison.)

DAREDEVIL #12: Huh, somehow missed #11 and the crossover. Hopefully the back issues are still lurking on the shelves.

    DIAL H #1: Verrry curious.

EARTH 2 #1: Not sold from what I’ve seen of the preview, but intrigued enough to pick it up.

FURY MAX #1: Morbidly interested in Ennis’s next turn at the old bastard.

MIND THE GAP #1: Bleeding Cool’s preview hooked me.

And definitely NOT buying SUPREME #64. The only bummer bigger than the last issue’s non-conclusion of this long-awaited storyline is seeing how Erik Larsen will mangle it further.

SPIRIT WORLD HC: Probably not picking it up Weds., unless my drool stains make it necessary.

  8. Damn, has it really been five years since the last time 5/2 fell on a Wednesday, with the final issue of 52? Good times (for one week, until Countdown started).

  9. THINGS THAT HAPPENED LAST WEEK!

    MERCILESS RISE OF MING #1
I bought it and I didn’t hate it. The painted style is not really my bag but I found enough to love – especially the hawks elevated throne and some other designy things – to make it more “lovingly rendered” than “awkwardly lifeless.”
Sadly, Ming is a child of privilege rather than a rising warlord. I suppose it’s part of the history they felt beholden to but they’ve reimagined more radical departures. Any odd, that’s a choice, not a shortcoming, so I will continue on with it to #2!

    SPACEMAN #6 (OF 9)
Not quite crazy enough for me but I can never get enough of the old, “He doesn’t know who he’s running his mouth to” trope. When the comeuppance is as direct as it is here it’s especially sweet and and and on a page turn to boot! It’s almost like somebody knows how to use the layout to dramatic effect. I don’t know if the timing is realistic, or the arterial pyrotechnics for that matter but sometimes you just go with it.

    TEEN TITANS #8
I…couldn’t do it. Taking a cue from the Mindless Ones I should’ve known better and this time I DID know better.

DUNCAN THE WONDER DOG TP VOL 01 (OF 9) SHOW ONE (O/A)
Was not in, has been ordered!

KIRBY FOURTH WORLD OMNI TPB #2
And again. Not in. One more week – then Amazon.

    COMING THIS WEEK!

    ACTION COMICS #9
Welcome to the now, yes? Tell us how to write this new Superman, eh GM?

BULLETPROOF COFFIN DISINTERRED #4 (OF 6)
Read the first series, enjoyed it alright. I’ll look at this and if it GRABS ME I’ll likely buy it via Mr. Hibbs fine digital establishment.

    EARTH 2 #1
Hopefully James Robinson’s recent incorporation of one-off guest stars in The Shade has primed his pump for alt reality writing and we can avoid the whole “2-3 issues to get warmed up to the premise” dynamic. God, if this this can be Golden Age 2 I’ll be a happy, happy camper.

    GARFIELD #1
    Nah, just messing with ya.

    MIND THE GAP #1
    Image – 40 pages – $2.99 – Duh

    WORLDS FINEST #1
    Sure, why not?

    X-O MANOWAR (ONGOING) #1
I always had a weird affinity for those BWS Valiant covers. Cool concept so I’ll give it a go!

    SPIRIT WORLD HC
100 pages for $26? Let’s first get the 396 pages of King for the same price, yeah?

    Best to everyone!

  10. Well, I’m travelling for work this week, but when I get back to my LCS, this is what I hope to find! I do think it is odd the the nu4 all ship the same week.

We were always at war with Oceania! There were always exactly the same 52 comics in the relaunch! Pay no attention to the nummbering! Consitency is the hobgoblin of litle minds1 (just for John K-UK)!

ACTION COMICS #9 – Hope, Change and Kryptonite.

DAREDEVIL #12 – I agree with Graeme, the gloss is off the rose. We are judging the book on its merits, and luckilly, so far it has merited a lot.

DIAL H #1 – I hope China is the comics writer he wants to be, but given he writes 700 pg novels usually, this may not be a seamless transition.

EARTH TWO #1 – I have a lot of time for James Robinson. We all are hoping for the best. But maybe secretly fearing the worst.

GI COMBAT #1 – yeah…Dinosuar Island. It is still awesome 40 years later.

MIND THE GAP #1 – looks intriguing! Image, don’t make me LIKE you…..

    SWAMP THING #9 – Arcaaaaane!

THE LONE RANGER #5 – those last two issues were pitch perfect. Great stuff.

THE SPIDER #1 – love me some puplps. But I hate, with the fury of a million exploding suns, the Dynamite four cover fixation. It PREVENTS me from preordering, and I suspect hurts, not helps, their numbers.
