  1. EMPOWERED TP VOL 07–for me the best comics day of the year is when there’s a new volume of Empowered!

  2. Resident Alien, Mind MGMT and Batman Inc were my winners last week.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN ANNUAL #39 – Marvel has rolled out the C-team for this one! I’ll give it a flick and decide – last years annual written by John Layman was quite fun, leaving me with good feelings towards ASM annuals.

AMERICAS GOT POWERS #2 (OF 6) – Woo-hoo! #1 was the best superhero book on the stands last month. Ross is doing a classic coming of age hero journey, and Hitch hasn’t looked this good since The Authority.

ANIMAL MAN ANNUAL #1 – The title for this issue is ‘Endless Rot’, which seems to sum up Lemire’s notes for this series, but he does make it enjoyable.

BATMAN ANNUAL #1 – The previews all say this ish reintroduces Mr. Freeze into the NuDCU, except he already appeared in the last Red Hood issue, which also tied into Night Of The Owls (and they did publicity with Scott Lobdell about his Nu52 take on Freeze).

GLAMOURPUSS #25 – Time for my bi-monthly dose of crazy!

GRIM LEAPER #1 (OF 4) – Could be good.

HULK SMASH AVENGERS #5 (OF 5) – Last issue was the first to really live up to my expectations of these done-in-one’s, particularly the page with Gray Hulk all dressed up, firing two giant tommy-guns at the Avengers jet.

INCREDIBLE HULK #8 – It’s hard to tell if Aaron has a plan, or is free-forming, and I’m not sure it needs quite as much Hulk-sex as it’s had, but this book is a pretty wild ride.

NEW DEADWARDIANS #3 (OF 8) – I hope those commoners learn their place.

SUPERMAN FAMILY ADVENTURES #1 – Not sure if this will be too kid-oriented for me, but it will be fun finding out.

WOLVERINE AND X-MEN #11 AVX – Every issue this ties in to AVX is an issue pushing me away. AVX is boring, and it’s making this book boring.

BATMAN DEATH BY DESIGN DELUXE ED HC – May have to put it off for a week or two, but I’m sure it will be mine one day.

  3. I’ve reached the point where I’m glad for a light week, meaning my only pick from this list is NEW MUTANTS 43. I’m quite enjoying the Exiled crossover, but I’ll not continue following New Mutants after this. JIM continues to entertain!

I was not strong enough to quit WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN last issue, but my willpower has regrouped and I think I’ll be able to drop it. That money is just fifty cents short of buying me a sandwich at the Kosher Cafe!

NEW DEADWARDIANS 3?! I enjoyed the first but totally missed the second. Will I pick up two back issues? Suspense!

And if I play my cards right, someday I will hold a copy of BATMAN: DEATH BY DESIGN in my hands. But it will not be soon. Every Chip Kidd project makes me forget I wasn’t particularly thrilled about the last Chip Kidd project . . . but the pages I’ve seen look pretty great.

  4. Batman Annual #1:
It’s been a good book, so this should be good!

And… that’s it. That’s not so bad, since I think I probably won’t make it to the shop this week anyway.

  5. “WOLVERINE AND X-MEN #11 AVX – Every issue this ties in to AVX is an issue pushing me away. AVX is boring, and it’s making this book boring.”

Gods, do I agree with that.

  6. What Happened Last Week!

Small week for me LW with Batman Inc delivering the goods (lord, that was a lot of blood, wasn’t it?) Prophet confusing me in a good way and Ragemoor being sold out! Yay? Boo!

    This week!

BATMAN ANNUAL #1 (NIGHT OF THE OWLS)
Having listened to the most recent mindless ones podcast (SILENCE!) I feared for the mind of Gary Lactus as he has vowed to read all issues of AVX and Night of the Owls.

Let that sink in for a second.

Now, I’ve been very content to read only the Batman title as it is the only one to have Greg Capullo. It does, however, bring up an interesting way to do the crossover which maybe sidesteps the whole thing Graeme linked to (forgive me, I don’t have the link, read it on the ipad, my time this am is limited) regarding the need to eventually put AvX in some kind of proper reading order outside of the one established by Marvel’s editors who are, you know, presumably paid to do just that.

It appears, from hearing the fractured mind of Lactus that OWLFIGHT takes the rather novel (horrifying) approach of telling the exact same story in all the tie-ins. So, if you like seeing Robin fight an owl(s) you pick up the Robin book but if you’ve got the hots for Dick Grayson fighting Owls you just pick up the Nightwing version. Again, not having read them I’m taking the bubbly masochist’s word for it but I think it’s a stunning admission that a) they don’t really expect anyone to buy them all and b) don’t really give a shit about the poor folks that do spend all that money.

X-MEN PHOENIX TP ENDSONG WARSONG ULT COLL

(Cut to the Pilot Briefing room in Top Gun. Goose has just been informed that the plaque for the alternates is down in the ladies room)

“Ahahahahaha, Jesus…you kill me…you really do.”

No, Marvel, but seriously. Who buys this? I want to know! Sorry if I’m dumping on someone’s “Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow” or what have you but this title…

  7. If you want to see me fight an owl staple a vole to my face and leave me in the woods at night! Also, I have also worked up the perfect reading order for AvX: don’t.

I’ll be having a pop at these:

    AMERICAN VAMPIRE #27
    GLAMOURPUSS #25
    RASL #14
    ROGER LANGRIDGES SNARKED #8
    SUPERMAN FAMILY ADVENTURES #1

    Books / Mags / Stuff

Hey, kids! What is this?: INCAL CLASSIC COLLECTION HC (HUMANOIDS ED)

I got an INCAL collection a bit ago that was by Moeb&Jod. Very nice it was too. Is this the same stuff or one of those prequels/sequels by Jod and another bod?

They might hold back the night but they can’t hold back COMICS!!!
