  1. Ah! A week blessedly free of AvX nonsense!

    Light week for me, actually:

    Avenging Spider-Man #7:
Fun book. My oldest daughter loves cats, so she’ll get a kick out of the intro page. I’m still waiting for zanier team-ups.

    Batman #9:
In spite of a general distaste for crossovers, I’m enjoying Night of the Owls. It feels organic, not forced: it makes sense in the context of there being such a thing as the “Bat family” that a big threat, localized to Gotham, would call all of them in like this. Now, to be fair, I read the main title anyway. Don’t know how I’d feel if I only read some of the spin-offs and had this storyline intruding.

    Frankenstein Agent of Shade #9:
NOT! Dropped. Sorry Frank. I tried, and you tried, but it just didn’t work out. Not enough there for me. Eight issues in and I barely knew you or your cast, though you seemed like you might be fun folks. Plus I never really warmed up to the art to begin with, then it recently took a turn for the worse.

Might pick up Batgirl or B&R Night of the Owls things if they look good. Again, a crossover working on me just the way it’s supposed to, dangit.

  2. Journey into Mystery 637

    Morning Glories 18

    Wolv & the X-Men 10

    X-Men Legacy 266

I’ll admit, I have gotten to the point where I could live without any of these. I do hold out hope for “Morning Glories” but then I did stick with the TV show “Lost” til the bitter end….

  3. I will not allow myself to believe they have made Vol 13 of the Legion Archives until I hold it in my hands.
….and then I will weep tears of joy, and I will be unashamed.

  4. WHAT HAPPENED LAST WEEK!

    ACTION COMICS #9
Though missing the zenith of cultural relevance by the better part of a half century I would absolutely buy the ongoing president Superman comic book. I loved this comic. Loved it. Ha is visually interesting as usual and I don’t know if I enjoy any working artist’s design sense as much as I do Gene’s.

    EARTH 2 #1 and World’s Finest #1
Not having the issue in front of me I’m left with the overwhelming sense that World’s Finest was a bit cheesecakeish and suffered from being read 1st (d’oh).
That said, if it’s gotta be – make mine MAGUIRE! In the case of Earth 2 there has always been an undeniable power in telling “THE END” of the story. As such, this is an easy win for a writer as skilled at emotional button pushing as Robinson. The characters feel fully formed in their relationships and dynamics. While some on these boards felt a real pang at the “passing” of the original JSA I’ve only got good feelings going forward based on what is on the page.

    Two quick thoughts:

    1) Jeez, Jay Garrick’s high school girlfriend is a terrible human being at this point in her young life.
    2) I really like the idea of a god generating a new hero. Kinda like a NEW GOD!!!

    MIND THE GAP #1
I actually haven’t bought this yet as I left the ipad alone all week. The construx we bought on ebay came and I’ve been building stuff non-stop for the boy. Construx were and remain the pinnacle of children’s building technology. I dare anyone to suggest otherwise. If you do, I will post a link that will…nevermind, here it is anyway http://construxion.tripod.com/

    X-O MANOWAR (ONGOING) #1
I thought this was pretty good and well done. Others saw it differently. You can see my thoughts on it in Hibbs’ reviews.

    FOURTH WORLD OMNIBUS #2
Does anything need to be said? Windmill felled. The good stuff.

    COMING THIS WEEK

BATMAN #9 (NIGHT OF THE OWLS)
The boulder rolls downhill. A lot is riding on this issue and the conclusion of this arc. When the first collected edition is out before the story concludes I’m forced to wonder about the publishing distribution model.

    HIGHER EARTH #1
    It’s a buck. We’ll see.

    INVINCIBLE #91
I continue to espouse the belief that this is the best ongoing superhero comic being published. Consistently developing characters and persistently growing within conventions without being derivative.

    MYSTERY IN SPACE #1
    Prospecting

    SUPERBOY #9 (THE CULLING)
Hopefully RB Silva is back on full art and I can follow the happenings without having read other portions of THE CULLING.

  5. I’m probably buying some pamphlets but at the moment all I can think about is:

    Books / Mags / Stuff
    THE BIBLE HC

READ! the tales that started it ALL! This is The ONE!
EVERYTHING! changes here! Nothing will EVER! be the same again!

    It’s THE BIBLE HC!

THRILL! As Adam The Original Man and Eve The Original Woman battle the sinister Serpent and God cries out, “Hey, Not In My Backyard!”
TASTE! the salty waters of God’s anger in “Ark! A haven!”
TREMBLE! before the cautionary tale “I’ll Sodom Gomorrah!”
All THIS! And MORE! Titanic Two-fisted Bible action as only DC! can deliver!

YES! The Word of God could only be brought to you by the combined talents of Sheldon “Sugar’n’Spike!” Mayer, Joe “Tor!” Kubert and Nestor “Rima The Jungle Girl!” Redondo!

ONLY! from the DC Comics of 1975! Where STRANGE! editorial decisions were made! And I for one am GLAD! they were!

Yes, I think I’ll be buying this.

  6. COURTNEY CRUMRIN ONGOING #2
ATOMIC ROBO TP VOL 06 GHOST OF STATION X

And I guess that’s it. I’ll probably wait to go to the comic store until I’m in Pittsburgh or NYC again. Oh well.
