  1. AvX VS #3:
NOT! Wasted $8 on the first two and what a useless bunch of drivel. Not funny or fun enough to justify the insane price tag. It might have been amusing for a buck. Dropped.

    Batman #10:
Looking forward to the end of the Owls stuff. It’s been good, but I think I’m ready for the next arc now. (Though my 10 year old son thinks the Owls are the coolest thing ever, so he’ll be bummed when they’re gone.)

BTW – Hey Hibbs, is Batman now permanently a week two book?

    Planetoid #1:
A blind buy on my part – I know nothing about the premise or the creative team. Just saw some preview pages and like the sci-fi vibe and artwork. I’m slowly weeding out the conventional superhero stuff from the Big Two in favor of these compelling sci-fi offerings which are more my interest. Keep ‘em coming!

  2. Yes, back from world travels too, and it’s a monster week!

AMERICAN VAMPIRE LORD OF NIGHTMARES #1 – Snyder and Nguyen? Yes please.

BATMAN #10 – time for some taking charge and fighting back. And then we will never need to see the owls again. Ever.

BEFORE WATCHMEN SILK SPECTRE #1 – holding my judgement on these as a matter of practice, but are there parts of Ms Jupiter’s life we aren’t given?

COBRA ONGOING #14 – you should know that this is very good espionage comic with great emotional tension. And knowing is half the battle.

CONAN THE BARBARIAN #5 – still have an issue to catch up on. But it has been grand so far.

KISS #1 – rock and roll all night, and party every Wednesday! Yeah, buying this for old time’s sake, just like I’m buying the trade – despite the lack of KISS blood in the printing ink like the old Marvel Super Special (google it kids!). These were the forbidden fruit of seven year old Corey (Calgary)’s life, but now YOU CAN’T STOP ME MOM! I’LL BUY WHAT I WANT!

MASSIVE #1 – and the indie renaissance continues. Looks very nice indeed.

MIND THE GAP #2 – and the indie renaissance… that was a nicely done first issue. The extra story really gave it a good, fulsome story push. So no need for a zero issue or anything crazy like that, to alienate the reader while making them feel ripped of and cheated.

PLANETOID #1 – and the indie rennai….., oh hell, I’m buying it for the exact same reason (‘not THAT’) Chris Brown is.

SAUCER COUNTRY #4 – I’ll retire the not-funny indie renaissance schtick, but this is also one of those books. It has definitely left behind the “X Files meets West Wing’ high concept, and it’s going another completely different direction. Heard one podcast review which cautioned on ‘TEH NUDITY’ perhaps unaware what the “Pioneer Couple” were. Since Mom didn’t allow me that KISS comic, I had extra time to read Dad’s Time-Life ‘History of Space Exploration’ books.

SUICIDE SQUAD #10 – and one actual super-hero book. With nary a hero in sight.

And Marvel gets shut out again. I guess somebody must be buying those AVX books, but it isn’t me.

In fact, it seems that the new52 from DC has replaced my Marvel buying and the niche in the comic food chain it served for me (punchin’ and angstin’), and my old Vertigo buying at DC (thinking and savoring) has been replaced by Image books. And Marvel, well, they have just been replaced. Sorry guys: it’s not me, it’s you.

Comics! They keep me coming home!

  3. LAST WEEK!

    ACTION COMICS #10
    Yep, we’re rolling now.

    CREATOR OWNED HEROES #1
Hibbs hated it for sure. I like looking at Phil Noto drawings. I don’t really need the cosplay thing or the convention stuff so hopefully no mas.

    DIAL H #2
Oh man, I found myself liking this more than issue 1 which I liked pretty well. Should I hate myself for liking the slightest formula tweaks? (He’s fat, not particularly hero’s journey material, and he smokes…a lot.)

    EARTH 2 #2
Yep. Robinson feels on stride these days. The only thing more interesting in comics than a long term relationship is the melodrama of the loss. Nobody talks about Gwen Stacy as a character, really. They talk about how her death served as the emotional shorthand catalyst that changed Peter. If Robinson can do this turn in the span of an issue it’ll be a pretty nifty trick. I feel like that wedding / engagement ring is going to be involved.

    HARBINGER (ONGOING) #1
That this is a universe without a lot of other books hanging on it means the stakes can be big in this book. Liked it quite a bit.

    WORLDS FINEST #2
Going to see where it goes. Worth investing in so far for keeping Maguire’s pencil sharp.

    X-O MANOWAR (ONGOING) #2
Sold out. Seems a ton of people added it to their pull late. Must have done something right in my shop all you sayers of NAY!

    THIS WEEK!
Apparently week 2 is my big one these days.

BATMAN #10 – Echoing Corey’s thoughts I’ve been on since issue 1 and as much as I’ve enjoyed Capullo I’m ready to see them look at something else. What I really liked about Batman in the 80’s and even 90’s was that a majority of the writers had no problem hammering out new concepts or arcs every couple issues. Some of my favorite Batman books of all time are Alan Grant and John Wagner done in ones. More of that would be a welcome respite from year long slogs.

CONAN THE BARBARIAN #5 – Really enjoying Wood’s take so far. Howard’s jailbreak / heist / rescue / accidental slaughters tend to come across even better than his big set piece clashes so I hope getting Conan out of the noose is a ripper.

INVINCIBLE #92 – I love how wordy this book is. I love how Ryan Ottley and (occasionally) Cory Walker draw this thing. You don’t need to have been around since issue one. In fact, I kinda envy people jumping in now. “I thought Invincible was white?” It would be like getting dropped into late 70’s Spider-Man. “Who’s this guy? What’s up with the talking dinosaur?”

MASSIVE #1 – Who knows? He’s earned my trust for such a personal project.

MIND THE GAP #2 – So, I guess I was the only one who thought the first book was crap, right?

SAUCER COUNTRY #4 – Cornell & Kelly are two guys I really try to get behind. Demon Knights fell off for me but I’ve decided I’m getting this to the end. Each issue seems to have picked up points.

SHADE #9 (OF 12) – This book is getting to be my favorite read being put out by DC.

SUPERBOY #10 – Get this clear of crossover town. The sooner, the better.

  4. Last Week – I barely made a dent in the pile due to being at the cinema the whole time. Tatsumi, Play It Like Godard,
Despite The Gods and Amour were great. On The Road is meh, an art film you’ll never hear of Tabu, was poor.
Comics wise, of what I have read, Dial H stole the show.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #687 – He’s tortured Sandman, sweet talked Mysterio… what will he do next to stop the environment being saved?

BATMAN #10 – Man am I sick of the rot. I mean Owls. I mean… thank god for Greg Capullo being on this.

CONAN THE BARBARIAN #5 – Even with fill-ins this book is awesome.

DEMON KNIGHTS #10 – It’s not a good sign that I can’t remember last ish at all, but Cornell tends to deliver, so I’m sure it was good.

FRANKENSTEIN AGENT OF SHADE #10 – Matt ‘motherfuckin’ Kindt!

INCREDIBLE HULK #9 – This book is really cooking now Steve Dillion is on art. I used to be embarrassed to get it, but no longer!

MASSIVE #1 – I hear this will be HUGE!

MIND THE GAP #2 – I wasn’t impressed on first read, but Jim McCann wrote a great ‘Hulk Smash Avengers’ issue (best in show) so I tried it again, and liked it much more.

PLANETOID #1 – It’s got good art in the previews.

SAUCER COUNTRY #4 – This book intrigues.

SCARLET SPIDER #6 – Probably my last issue, as it’s Ryan Stegman’s last issue. The fill-in last month really made me aware of what the appeal of this series has been.

    SKULLKICKERS #15 – It’s good!

THE SPIDER #2 – The first ish was alright, but I was borderline on what to do. The Greg Hatcher at CSBG wrote a review that hyped me up on it, so I’ll give it another couple of issues to really hook me.
