  1. “It’s a good time to be fearful!” Hurrah! When not enjoying being fearful I’ll be looking forward to:

    CAPTAIN AMERICA #619
(Chris Samnee! See how he shines!)
    DARK HORSE PRESENTS #2
(The Wild Geese of comics! Yes, Howard Victor Chaykin is Roger Moore. But which one is Richard Harris?)
    IRON MAN 2.0 #6
(I haven’t had an issue since #2 so I dunno.)
    JOHN BYRNE NEXT MEN #7
(Can Byrne-anarama possibly top: “I’m YOU – from the FUTURE!”? Reply hazy, try again.)
    MIGHTY THOR #3
(Hopefully starring the SENSATIONAL comics find of 2011 – Lame Priest The Ecclesiastical Liability!)
    SPIRIT #15
(Hey, I really dug FRANK MILLER’S WILL EISNER’S THE SPIRIT. What? Too soon?)
    WOLVERINE #11
(“Stacks of four colour paper in his Red Right Hand. Boop! Boop! BoooooOOOOOOooop!”)
    YOUNG JUSTICE #5
    (On probation.)

They make my mind dance like a Dad at a wedding! COMICS!!!

  2. Not a great week numerically, but some books that I’ll love reading. And that’s what it’s all about.

DMZ #66 (on its last legs, but telling the story it wants to tell)

ROCKETEER ADVENTURES #2 (I thought #1 was everything I wanted from a Rocketeer comic and more. That said, I realize Cliff, Betty and Peevie were a niche taste in 1982. And it sure isn’t 1982 out there in the DM. Great stuff, though, and a big thanks to IDW both for taking the risk and for doing it right)

SPIRIT #15 (the two punch, in my double fisted pulp week. Some amazing work from Hine and Moritat. Golly Mister, if that art doesn’t marry perfectly to the script.)

ZATANNA #14 (Dini and Igle. Go together like top-hat and tails)

Closing note: There are almost always 3 or 4 books I’ll flip through and maybe I’ll buy half of those on impulse. But this week…not so much. Not a one. Hope that isn’t a harbinger.

(TM) Harbinger is trademark and copyright DC Comics.

  3. @John K(UK): Keeping with your Wild Geese theme, Steranko is Richard Burton and Paul Chadwick is Richard Harris. We still need a Hardy Kruger. (Cue the American readers “what the heck are the Wild Geese?”)

  4. Only two things I’ve ordered for the month of June have actually come out. Next week better be huge.

  5. ACTION COMICS #902 (DOOMSDAY)
BATMAN GATES OF GOTHAM #2 (OF 5)
BRIGHTEST DAY AFTERMATH THE SEARCH #1 (OF 3)
FLASHPOINT KID FLASH LOST #1 (OF 3)
FLASHPOINT LOIS LANE AND THE RESISTANCE #1 (OF 3)
FLASHPOINT THE OUTSIDER #1 (OF 3)
    FLASHPOINT THE REVERSE FLASH #1
    SIGIL #4 (OF 4)
    SUPERMAN #712
VERTIGO RESURRECTED SANDMAN PRESENTS PETREFAX #1

I wonder if in the DC books, leading up until September, there’s more chance of crazy shit going down, or the villains winning – as they won’t have to deal with the consequences.
On the other hand, if Flashpoint is the real DCU (not an alt-reality) then I guess they can’t go too crazy, as we know from Flash #12, it was a really boring day just before Flashpoint happened.

Not sure if I can keep going with all the Flashpoint tie-ins next month though. I don’t think they are terrible, not great but not terrible, it’s just too many comics to have to read in a week. I’ve not tackled any of last weeks FP books yet – they are in a pile on my coffee table, but I just can’t bring myself to keep reading. (God only knows why I’ve decided to check out the BD after-mini then).

  6. Oh man. Am I the only person that thinks PLANET OF THE APES is one of the best books on the stands right now?

Literally the only thing on my pull that’s coming in this week, but I couldn’t be more excited to be going to the comic shop Wednesday.

  7. @VoodooBen: re Planet of the Apes….Not at all. I have been loving this! Ordered the first two issues sight unseen and have been very, very impressed. Talk about transcending genre.

I would encourage Savage Lurkers to try the TP. Ten bucks for $20 bucks worth of reprinted floppies.

  8. DRACULA COMPANY OF MONSTERS #11
    NEW MUTANTS #26
RED SONJA REVENGE O/T GODS #4 (OF 5)
    X-MEN LEGACY #251
    ZATANNA #14

MYSTIQUE BY SEAN MCKEEVER ULTIMATE COLLECTION TP

I liked Planet of the Apes comics as a kid – but looked at the first one and went ‘Meh’.

I could be tempted into Dark Horse Presents or comics with blue guys and giant orange gorillamen.

Neal Adams not up to Hardy Kruger standards, then?

  9. BRIGHTEST DAY AFTERMATH THE SEARCH #1 (OF 3) – My Swamp Thing fanboy gene precludes me from passing this up, so I’ll just have to be satisfied with passing up all the Flashpoint tie-ins.
CAPTAIN AMERICA #619 – Ratcheting up the excitement as we countdown to the jumping off point! And perhaps here we can find out about that death of Bucky thing (Cue Rocket J. Squirrel: “Again? But that trick never works!”)
DARK HORSE PRESENTS #2 – Apologies to Corey(Ottawa), but Paul Chadwick is no Richard Harris. I mean, he can do the brooding low voice, but for my money Harris has to be Neal Adams, who can yell out the high voice with his dynamic layouts and bombastic poses. Which leaves Chadwick as Hardy Kruger, the guy who just wants to go home. Can Frank Miller be the drill sergeant?
FABLES #106 – Wind Guy vs. Dark Guy! Wolf Dude and Puppet Boy left to pick up the pieces!
SECRET AVENGERS #14 FEAR – It’s a Valkyrie solo, and she is always inexplicably ignored when it comes to things Asgardian because, I don’t know, she’s a girl?
SPIRIT #15 – Already lamenting the loss of this come September, but since nobody’s buying it now I can’t really fault DC. At least Moritat will be in All-Star Western, but where is David Hine in the DCnü? Where?
ULTIMATE COMICS SPIDER-MAN #160 DOSM – At least in Cap there were 65 years between Bucky deaths. Here it’s been, what, a year and a half? I think Marvel renumbered this in hopes you’d forget this. Cue Rocket J…ah, you know.
VERTIGO RESURRECTED SANDMAN PRESENTS PETREFAX #1 – Not Mr. Petrefax, just Petrefax, because we do not use honorifics in the Necropolis Letharge.

  10. @ApeFanz: I liked Planet Of The Apes when they had those brains in jars way underground. Mike Ploog drew it, I think. Is it as good as that?

@GeeseFanz: Now listen here, Chaps. If this operation is going to get any bally traction it’s imperative we nail this down. As of DARK HORSE PRESENTS#1 the available Intel looked like this:

Frank Miller/Richard Burton (Col. Allen Faulkner)
Howard Victor Chaykin/Roger Moore (Lt. Shawn Fynn)
Neal Adams/Richard Harris (Capt. Rafer Janders)
Richard Corben/Hardy Krüger (Lt. Pieter Coetze)
Harlan Ellison/Stewart Granger (Sir Edward Matherson)
Paul Chadwick/Frank Finlay (Fr. Geoghagen, the Priest)
Michael T Gilbert/Ronald Fraser (Sgt. Jock McTaggart)
    Carla Speed McNeil/Rosalind Lloyd (Heather)

I understand nothing’s static in war so that might need updating as of#2. We’ll have a short break for tea and then see if we can’t get on and give the beggars a good drubbing, ey?

  11. @James Woodward: I also was very pleased to see Moritat heading to the wiild west; I am imaging a great Moebius like colour palatte to desert vistas, with that wonderful line of Moritat’s which should be sketchy but never is. He does such great expressive faces too.

That said, DC quite canilly did NOT hold the line at $2.99, and All-Star Western is $3.99 (albeit with 40 pages). If Jonah’s eponymous book wasn’t selling at the lower price, what chance does this have?

  12. Want to put ’40 pages – double the comic!’ in really big letters?

Jonah Hex in Gotham – because what we really, really need is another comic set in Gotham. Probably hasn’t been more than 10 of those in the last day.

  13. Shades of grey introduces millions to Lust and trantric secret

  14. I really love incompetent spambots like that one!
