  1. Hot damn, the BLEEDOUT HC’s coming out!

Plus GATES O’ GOTHAM, the RETRO70BATMAN, IRON MAN, FLASHPOINT: OUTSIDER…

As usual, when you say it’s a slow week, I’m getting more books than usual. Funny, that.

  2. BATMAN GATES OF GOTHAM #3 (OF 5)
    DAREDEVIL #1
FLASHPOINT DEADMAN AND THE FLYING GRAYSONS #2 (OF 3)
FLASHPOINT THE OUTSIDER #2 (OF 3)
FLASHPOINT WONDER WOMAN AND THE FURIES #2 (OF 3)
    LEGION OF SUPER HEROES #15
    MARINEMAN #6 (NOTE PRICE)
    THUNDER AGENTS #9
    WITCH DOCTOR #2 (OF 4)

There’s a good chance I’ll be getting the DC Retroactives, but I want to have a flick through them before even vaguely committing.
Also dropped Superman/Batman and Supergirl. There’s only a few issues to go, and the first part of their last arcs both left me cold.

  3. DC COMICS PRESENTS THE METAL MEN #1
    GENERATION HOPE #9
HACK SLASH #6 CVR A LIESTER & ROSENBERG
    LEGION OF SUPER HEROES #15
    MARKSMAN #1 (OF 6)
    REAPER #2
RED SONJA REVENGE O/T GODS #5 (OF 5)
    UNCANNY X-MEN #541 FEAR
    WALKING DEAD #87
    WARLORD OF MARS #8
    WITCH DOCTOR #2 (OF 4)
    X-FACTOR #222
    ZATANNA #15

  4. DAREDEVIL #1
So ready for this one. Rivera / Martin with Waid’s general assured storytelling has every ingredient for a great run. I am as pumped for this, I think, as I’ve ever been for a number 1.

FLASHPOINT THE OUTSIDER #2 (OF 3)
We see if the murder parade continues outside the main book. Having been dissuaded from many of the other FP tie-ins I will hang with this one in the hope that he becomes a carryover character with some legs.

    GENERATION HOPE #9
Months ago I saw Gillen mention this as one of the best things he’s done. I like his work and I’m a soft touch for some melodrama. Wish he’d gotten a little more rope here since I felt from the beginning Hope has been a thing more than a character. He needed more time and I think it was a poor choice to launch a completely Sep. #1. Of course, only the bean counters know for sure. Watch for the continuing adventures of Idie as she tries to gracefully back out of the Wolverine teenage girl “sidekick” club.

    LEGION OF SUPER HEROES #15
Levitz me. But, if this makes any sense can we get a little more Giffen-y?

    UNCANNY X-MEN #541 FEAR
Gillen gets another from me. I can’t help it. I hope, eventually, he can push the panel count in this thing. When he gets or gives himself more room to write he’s really gotten some great development in – especially the characters Fraction tossed in to the deep end of the pool w/o a backward glance. Land’s art is tolerable. Still get the occasional “Oh” face. Sigh.

  5. I’m with Robson, I haven’t had a week this heavy in a while.

DAREDEVIL #1 (J_Smitty nails it. Rivera/Martin are entirely capable of turning DD past the Miller/Janson hangover. This should be great)

    DMZ #67

HELLBLAZER #281 (still screaming along on the voyage of the damned! Keep it up Mr Milligan, you happy lunatic)

LEGION OF SUPER HEROES #15 (J_Smitty’s point is well taken. Bad Legion stories end up being set pieces, but this is far from a bad Legion story. It could, however, be even better than it is with just a bit more energy. That LSV Special showed what this team can do.)

ROCKETEER ADVENTURES #3 (the Rocka-who? LOVE THIS!)

SPIRIT #16 (interesting diversion last issue: a suicide girl finds Eisner and Kirby’s stash of original art! And the mob is on her tail! If you don’t like that, you don’t like comics! And while I missed Moritat’s art – suspect he is off drawing the Goddamned Jonah Hex – this remains a favorite book.)

WARLORD OF MARS #8 (ticking along very nicely, and the last issue or two have really gotten things moving again. Was interested to see Marvel also has a John Carter book coming. Owing to the Disney movie license, perhaps?)

ZATANNA #15 (and is the DCnU also without Jamal Igle? That would be a shame)

I too am interested in the Retro books, but will caveat my emptor. WW might get my pesos Wednesday, and all the 70s books will get a good hard look. Who can just blitheley pass by Carey Bates on JLA! And I am definitely buying the O’Neill/Grell GL upon its release.

More than a few books I’ll take a flip through, and some may even be coming home. And between that and orders, it’s a good week.

  6. Having read the online previews, I’m definitely getting The Flash and Batman books from DC Retroactive this week – both look to be a load of fun.
Not sure about the Wonder Woman one though – I’ll need to flick beyond the preview, as it didn’t really grab me.

Is the Metal Men 100 Pager this week?
DC’s site has it as August 3.
That said, I trust Brian’s shipping list over DC’s.

  7. Metal Men *shipped*, but it’s a “please destroy” book — about 7/8’s of it is pretty wildly out-of-register.

8/3 is a good printing of it.

  8. By the by did i miss the new “no pants for wonder woman” news?

  9. J_Smitty:

you have asked the comics equivalent of the “speed of an unladen swallow.” The hot sheets have the cover of issue #2 showing WW in pants, even as the cover of issue #1 is “color corrected” to put her back in the star-tini. Not to be crass, but hey, at least people are talking ABOUT WW.

  10. Brian:

Does that mean I should take my copy of Metal Men back to the store, to exchange it for one that doesn’t have a weird print thing going on?
(I’m never to sure what the protocol is with comics that have printing errors).

  11. Ben:

Yes — your store shouldn’t have sold it to you in the first place!

(If you’re feeling grumpy also let bob.wayne@dccomics.com know what store it is… but I can dig if you don’t want to narc!)

  12. Living in the arse end of the earth (TM), the comics arrive on Thursday afternoons, and usually they only have just finished unpacking before I get in – some was still happening yesterday.
My guess would be, it got unpacked and put on shelves before it was noticed as having been recalled/or the staff member un-packing didn’t know – it’s not a store that usually has any dodgy practices.
If they won’t refund it/it’s still on the shelves I’d consider narcing, but I’d be shocked/disappointed if either of those were the case.

  13. “@blogaboutcomics: Also, Cliff Chiang says Wonder Woman’s pants are retractile. So that answers THAT question.”

    Ok…now about that swallow…
