  2. Supergods:
Give it up already Morrison. Nobody will ever want to don a superman costume in real life, because you’d look like a retard.

League 3: People are still exicting by this? Really?
After the relative snoozefest of 1 and 2? The pretense of black dossier?

Come to think of it, i havent read anything worthwhile by Moore since “from hell”.

  3. Wait, there’s *got* to be something “special” happening in Tarot #69.

  4. What I Be Thunkin’:

I’m getting BATMAN THE DARK KNIGHT #4 (RES)out of morbid curiosity.

    BUTCHER BAKER RIGHTEOUS MAKER #5
CRIMINAL LAST OF INNOCENT #2 (OF 4)
    DEADPOOLMAX #10 (OF 12)
Looking above you see that two are hyper-violent and silly, one is serious, all three have their moments but the top two are clearly superior to the bottom third.

DETECTIVE COMICS #880 because Scott Snyder be killing it. Along with the artists.

TAROT WITCH OF THE BLACK ROSE #69 which I started picking up for a college project on the portrayal of female sexuality in comics but now just can’t stop reading because it is so insane. Oddly enough the last issue was actually, dare I say…good. It was just Skeleton Man fighting a huge dragon. Pretty much no gratuitous T&A, just well-drawn action. Jim Balent actually can draw well when he remembers to and quits drawing huge-chested women.

UNCANNY X-FORCE #12 because when you can have hyper-violence and humor you have one winning comic.

VENOM #5 SPI–I am getting this DESPITE the Spider-Island tie-in that I think it has this issue, not because of.

I would have gotten X-MEN SCHISM #2 (OF 5) but I did not hesitate to express my displeasure at the first issue being 33 pages for 1 cent less than five dollars. That is like a good kick to the junk for me, and I didn’t even like it that much, so I”m going to pass on the 2nd issue even if it is $3.99, because the cost of the first left such a bad taste in my mouth, or maybe it was a nerve-reaction from the junk-kicking.

ALAN MOORE STORYTELLER HC–I read a review of this and now want it.

SUPERGODS WHAT SUN GODS CAN TEACH US ABOUT BEING HUMAN HC
is a book my comic store already got because they use a different shipper for books and it came in last week, so I’m already set there at least.

  5. Crap, missed one.

The DC Retoractive books are subject to a flick through, and I got the tpb’s of Justice, so although I want the HC, may not get it.

    Mckraken:

Is Mozza’s book about people wearing costumes, or is it the comic history/autobiography/power of superheroes discussion it’s been advertised as?

Also, If you haven’t liked any volume of LoEG, why is it so odd that fans of the other volumes would still be checking it out?

  7. “League! Of! Extra-Ordinary! Gentlemen! YAY!” – Oh, YES! Hrrrrrm!

Also getting my limited allotments of time, money and attention are:

    AMERICAN VAMPIRE #17
(I hear Jordi Bernet is drawing this shortly. Jordi Bernet!)
    CAPTAIN AMERICA AND BUCKY #620
(Remember when Ambush Bug was throwing Cheeks The Toy Wonder at villains and talking to it like it was alive? That’s what I’m hoping for here. Don’t let me down, Captain America And Dead Bucky!)
    CRIMINAL LAST OF INNOCENT #2
    (Sean Phillips!)
    DEADPOOLMAX #10
(I love you Kyle Baker, but please finish drawing this issue, ey?)
    GLAMOURPUSS #20
(Who knew two talented men’s passive aggressive one-upmanship could be so riveting and educational? I don’t like the fashion stuff though.)
    JOHN BYRNE NEXT MEN #8
(Apparently The Future will resemble Star Trek: The (Slow) Motion Picture, but not to a litigious degree.)
    KIRBY GENESIS #2
(I’m super glad the hero is called Kirby because I wasn’t allowed to call my son Kirby. Or Howard. Or Gil. Or Shilo. Not even Alanmoore. )
    SIXTH GUN #13
(It’s going to be a TV series! I don’t care! Hopefully it’ll continue being a very enjoyable comic.)
WARLORD OF MARS FALL OF BARSOOM #1
(In which (the incomparable) Dejah Thoris discovers age and gravity affect every lady’s barsooms. (Oh, dear.))
    XOMBI #5
(*Great* book that has made me sign on for Rozum’s STATIC SHOCK.)

    Books / Mags / Stuff
As ever with this section I’ll get these when I can but I *will* be getting them:

    ALAN MOORE STORYTELLER HC
(Tell me more about this Alan Moore!)
    AMAZING 3D COMICS HC
(Jack Koiby! Steve Deet-ko! Joe Q-Bert! Dimensions numbering more than two!)
    LOEG III CENTURY #2 1969
(Alan Moore! Kevin O’Neil! I knew there was a point to living this long.)

    Moore! Moore! Moore!
Howdya like it? Howdya like it?
    Moore! Moore! Moore!
    Howdya like your…COMICS!

  8. “League 3: People are still exicting by this?”

I don’t know. What do people do when they’re exicting?

  9. Really great interview with Moore. Touches on plenty of good material…

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2011/jul/25/alan-moore-league-extraordinary-gentlemen?cat=books&type=article

“AM: I finished Neonomicon five years ago. The artist (Jacen Burrows) did a very good job but it took him a long time. That was something I did when I was in a very bad mood, just after having parted company with the mainstream comics industry. And finding that due to the lateness of payments I was badly in need of a few thousand pounds to settle a tax shortfall. Having said that I don’t do anything just for the money. I really did give it everything that I got.

They asked me for a horror story. They had gone out of their way to say that I could go as far as I wanted. And I thought I’ll do exactly that, I’ll do a horror story that is really horrible which has got sexual elements in it but perhaps not in a titillating way. It’s one of the most genuinely unpleasant things that I’ve ever written, but I stand by it. It’s a good horror story that touches on some very unpleasant things. As a horror story should do.”

    THAT IS AWESOMELY HONEST.

  10. I didn’t think to mention ACTION COMICS #903 (DOOMSDAY)
or WOLVERINE BEST THERE IS #8 but one has gone down so much in quality and the other has never been that good, so was it really a bit deal I didn’t think to say if I’d be getting them?

  11. Wowsers!

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #666 (I had not been following this book, but my LCS has a ‘dead-beat pull-list liquidation sale’ so I grabbed the last three or four for a buck each. Wow! These are some good comics.)

    AMERICAN VAMPIRE #17

ASTONISHING X-MEN #40 (I know they’re derivitive and now far too overused….but I love a good Brood story. I also adored Juan Bobilo’s art on She-Hulk, so I guess I am the audience for this issue. I just wonder if the two will mix. I REALLY wonder)

BRIGHTEST DAY AFTERMATH SEARCH FOR SWAMP THING #2 (ordered out of Swamp Thing solidarity and now stuck with it. Maybe I can sell my copy to Mike Serling.)

DC RETROACTIVE GREEN LANTERN THE 70S #1 (Iron Mike Grell! He got me into comics)

DC RETROACTIVE JUSTICE LEAGUE AMERICA THE 70S #1 (One of my favorite comics as a kid was JLA #123, where Cary Bates, while hiding from Julius Schwartz in the DC offices because of a deadline, trips over the Cosmic Treadmill – which of course was stored at DC HQ!- and ends up on Earth-1 where he becomes….wait for it….a super-villain! And puts a pounding on the JLA. But the ‘villains’ he used for his plot were really the JSA in disguise, including grown up Robin in the Batman costume, albeit with an R logo on his chest, but still with the domino mask and yellow cape! Bring me more of this!)

DETECTIVE COMICS #880 (Epic stuff. Last issue was Eisner worthy. And that Joker was crap-your-pants scary.)

KIRBY GENESIS #2 (Lo! There shall come an issue! John K(UK): I got to name my eldest daughter after the Black Widow. Truth!)

PLANET OF THE APES #4 (nicely done)

TERMINATOR ROBOCOP KILL HUMAN #1 (Great high concept, bad grammar. Should it not be ‘kill ALL humans’? We just going to “kill human?” I guess we are. Bang! The rest of all-y’all are safe.)

WARLORD OF MARS FALL OF BARSOOM #1 (I will hunt and peck for the awesome Francavilla ‘pulp’ style cover.)

LOEG III CENTURY #2 1969 (Break on through to the other side!)

I am positively giddy over this week. Great stuff!

  12. Another big week for me:
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #666 SPI – I enjoyed the preview, so this’ll be me giving Spider Island one chance to impress me
CAPTAIN AMERICA AND BUCKY #620 – On double secret probation, unless it’s like John K(UK)’s version. Combat Bucky, Frontline Medic!
CRIMINAL LAST OF INNOCENT #2 (OF 4) – I love everything about this series down to the paper stock
DC RETROACTIVE GREEN LANTERN THE 70S #1 – I may pick up the other Retros if I like the backup reprints
DETECTIVE COMICS #880 – With that cover & last issue’s Joker intro I’m getting goosebumps about this
FABLES #107 – Still enjoying it even if it’s not quite the must-read it once was
SIXTH GUN #13 – Yes I would watch this as a TV show, but I’ll definitely keep buying the comic

  13. Did I forget LOEG III CENTURY #2 1969? I did. I’m buying that too.

  14. I liked the first two LXG books fine, but everything from Black Dossier onward has been eye-rollingly bad. When it all comes down to it, this is just him smashing his favorite action figures together, which can be enjoyable when it’s played as big dumb fun as it was in the first couple books, but Christ, Moore can’t do anything for too long without getting really fucking bloated and pretentious about it. So now this is his grand statement unifying all fiction everywhere, and also every bit of music he ever liked, or some such, as represented by his own shitty versions of other people’s stories and characters? Okay, then. Whatever floats your boat. It leaves me pretty fucking cold, but then again so has pretty much everything he’s done for the last fifteen-plus years other than Top Ten.

I’m morbidly curious as to where he’s going to fit the rape scene into this one, though.

  15. Hurray! Hurray!

DC RETROACTIVE JUSTICE LEAGUE AMERICA THE 70S #1 reprints THAT VERY story from October 1975 I mentioned above! Bask in the awesome. BASK! I was six on first reading, and it blew my mind.

  16. Having now read LXG 1969, I note that it is super, super rapey. One almost wonders if Moore sits down before writing a script, gets out his old books, strokes his beard, and says aloud, “How much rape can I cram into this one?”

  17. Well, okay…. I defer to “moose n squirrel” on rape. But my five-year old JLA memories are on sale, and remarkably rape free! Buy DC Retro JLA!

  18. Seriously, there is an astral plane sequence where the psychic-rapist character, already confirmed to have physically raped lots of women in the book previously, is presented as having a giant monster penis with a giant monster eyeball attached to it which swings around threateningly and chases after the (naked, of course) female protagonist, whom the rape-monster wishes to possess so he can (of course) rape physically afterwards. While this is going on, the female protagonist’s unconscious body is being undressed and sexually assaulted by a third character.

  19. Like, it’s as if Moore flipped through a bunch of old Claremont Shadow King stories and yelled, “Not enough rape! Not enough rape!”

  20. @ moose n squirrel – just curious why you bothered to read the book if all you want to do is piss n moan about it?
