So while I was musing, as is my wont, upon THE LAST AMERICAN it occurred to me that it could also be read as a riposte to another strip involving a trek across a post-nuke landscape. One Wagner was also involved in, but which was driven mainly by Pat Mills. The difference between the two approaches is telling. But I don’t tell you about that, instead I just ramble aimlessly in my irritatingly hyperbolic style. It’s “An Impossible Journey Through a Radioactive Hell…” It’s “The Cursed Earth”! JUDGE DREDD: THE CURSED EARTH by McMahon & Mills Anyway, this…

“A Second World War Every Second…” COMICS! Sometimes You’ve Gorra Larf, Aincha!

One of the best comics you haven’t read is coming back into print. I shamelessly try and big it up because it’d be nice if people bought it this time round. What with it being pretty great and all. Oops, spoiler! THE LAST AMERICAN by McMahon, Grant & Wagner Anyway this…

“He Thought He Could Forget The Past. He was Wrong.” COMICS! Sometimes I Find A whole New Way To Bore You!

John Kane

Of late I’ve been a regular Chatty Cathy and no mistake, so as a change of pace I’ve scanned in some House Ads which ran in DC Comics from (and it’s totally arbitrary this) March 1989 to August 1990. I always enjoy looking at these things when I dig out my back issues; they remind me of stuff I have tucked away (and even sometimes forgotten), or nudge me about stuff I mean to pick up at some point before…I come to my senses and start acting my age. Sometimes they just make me shake my head and wonder how that turned out for everyone. Heck, it’s just fun looking at them, basically, and I hope you share my fascination……  Read More…

Borag Thungg, Earthlets! Clearly I have nothing useful to do with my time because I have bodged up a master list of the JUDGE DREDD MEGA COLLECTION. As each volume is released I will update the list and the accompanying image gallery. Should I “review” a volume I will link to that volume in the list. So, interested in the JUDGE DREDD MEGA COLLECTION as “reviewed” by yours truly, then this is the list for that. Pretty clear stuff. No questions? Anyone? Good. If anyone wants me to look at a particular volume, just drop me a comment. The volumes aren’t released in order so it’s not like I have a sensible plan of attack. If anyone wants me to…  Read More…

In which John beggars belief by actually following up on his threat to look at the Judge Dredd Mega Collection. This time out various, and largely unpleasant, xenomorphs get a quick course in The Law from Professor Joseph Dredd. JUDGE DREDD by McMahon, Wagner & Frame Anyway, this…

“This is Worser Than Washin’ An Elephink!” COMICS! Sometimes It’s Like I’m Shouting This At You While I Run Past!

Borag Thung, Earthlets! I have been quiet of late but I rested easy in the knowledge that the delightful Messrs Khosla, McMillan, Lester and Hibbs had been satisfying all your comicy needs to the highest of standards as ever. Not that I was resting you understand. So, practically writing this one as I move towards the door…Anyway, this… David Lapham from The Strain in DARK HORSE PRESENTS  #28

“You Owe Me A Father.” COMICS! Sometimes They Define “Ramage!”.

In 1987 DC Comics published a 12-issue “Maxi-series” by British (apparently I forgot one of them is of American origin)  Creators. It did not change the world of comics forever but since it featured a robot dog in a fez and shades, a living head in a bucket and stupid jokes by the pound while still being “about” something I thought we’d take a look. Me and my notions!
