“…A Cascade Of Wasps Attacked the Furry Monster!” COMICS! Sometimes You Worry About The Men Who Made Them!

John Kane

That’s right I read some comics. Some of them were old and some of them were new and one of them wasn’t really a comic at all. But only one of them made me think it was a miracle anyone was actually conceived in the ’50s. Yes, paging Dr. Subtext! Outbreak of ’50s gynophobia! But then to nostalgic old fools like me ’50s gynophobia is arguably the finest gynophobia of all! Anyway, this…

“Walter-bout An Audition?” COMICS! Sometimes It’s That Company That Doesn’t Respect Jack Kirby!

John Kane

Then I read some Marvel comics! I wouldn’t want anyone to accuse me of being in DC’s pocket now would I? I should bloody cocoa, chum! So yeah, the same one-note entitled whining will now follow but with different pictures posted in between the words! Bountiful Brian Hibbs’ Shipping List is under this linguistic lard!

“Clod. I Have WEAPONS…” Comics! Sometimes They Are Almost Fresh!

John Kane

It’s a post about comics! Is it early? Is it late? Time is in flux! Only if one man can face his Pull List can The Balance be restored! One Man. One Pull List. There will be Words… (…probably the wrong ones).

“Do They Come In KID’S Sizes?” Comics! Sometimes I Get A Bit Grumpy.

John Kane

Whoops. Lost my momentum there. Trying to get it back by looking at some comics and then blurting thoughts out in the form of words. Disaster? I have a recipe for that! Here’s the ingredients:

Wait, What? Ep. 71: Funk, Soul, Brother

Jeff Lester

Yep, a bit of a delay but here we are, more or less as promised: Wait, What? Ep. 71, featuring our new theme song courtesy of the hyper-talented Graeme McMillan. This done-in-one episode is not quite two hours and forty-five minutes and covers, um, lots of stuff. Stuff like OMAC and the other cancelled new52 titles; the current state of George Perez’s career and what Marvel’s marketing team could do with it; Mark Millar’s Trouble and Spider-Man; comments by Charles Vess and Ariel Olivetti about Marvel; Mark Waid’s Amazing Spider-Man/Daredevil crossover, Jason Aaron’s Wolverine and the X-Men as well as Wolverine #300. Plus, a lot of babbling from Jeff about PunisherMAX #21; a debate how many “good” issues a creator…  Read More…

“…I’m Taking The Case.” Comics! Sometimes They Aren’t Older Than Your Grandad!

John Kane

Here’s an image from DAREDEVIL #4; a comic that isn’t talked about within. But I just really, really wanted it up there so I indulged myself. I do go on about #5 of DAREDEVIL though. Is that alright? Are you sure? Because it matters to me! Well, I can’t promise to help but I did write some words about some comics that were actually published this Century. Yay me! Oh yeah, one of the images may be NSFW, depends where you work, I guess?

Wait, What? Ep. 57.2: Playing the Dozens

Jeff Lester

Behind the non-Clowesian eightball again, so this will have to be short and sweet. First? Graeme and I love you all. Awwww. (See? Sweet.) Second, the above illustration is from Uncanny X-Force #15, by the astonishingly great Jerome Opena. (I think the whole book is pretty great, because Remender is doing his best to crank things up to 11, but ooo mama that art….) Third, this installment is approximately eighty minutes long and we talk about a dozen-plus books, including Batwoman #1, Mr. Terrific #1, Legion Lost #1, Superboy #1, Uncanny X-Force #15, PunisherMAX #17, Criminal: Last of the Innocent #4, Journey Into Mystery #627, Drifting Classroom, Bakuman, and, as you’d probably expect, Fear Itself #6. Fourth, I think our review…  Read More…

Wait, What? Ep. 53.1: Why Are They Smiling?

Jeff Lester

I kinda like that I’ve decided to call this installment, “Why Are They Smiling?” and I have a this illustration of someone asking “Why are they smiling?” and also maybe someone says it in the very podcast, too. It’s a bit like “Merv Griffin!”, that most excellent Milk & Cheese cartoon, and it’s a bit like that “turtles all the way down” meme, and a bit like that faux-Jack T. Chick Cthulhu strip, and it’s a bit like I have headache and can’t really think of anything especially subtle. So. Due to said headache, I will skip the program notes which I’ve been trying to add (not really sure if they’re helping anyone or not, anyway) and, hmmm, maybe I…  Read More…

“More Water, Ma’am?”…Comics? They still make ‘em and I still read ‘em!

John Kane

Enter my personal four colour nightmare! Gonna make your eyes boil like eggs! Or bore you senseless. Hard to tell really. Anyway, I read some comics wrote some words – it’s a story as old as Love itself! Like my face. (You look lost, stranger – The Shipping List is the next post down)

Bewilderment Inc: Featuring The Malingerer!

John Kane

After the break I’ll be not knowing what the Hell I’m doing with some comics you probably didn’t read. Remember, kids, if you want me to stop before someone gets hurt contact Mr. Hibbs.

Burble Burble Burble, Hibbs fufills a promise to review

Brian Hibbs

I said I was going to review, so here’s a few quick hits. I’ve been spending a lot of time this week on the back end of the site, you’ll notice some of the real estate has changed. That “uncategorized” number will shrink over the year as I go through the older, blogger-era posts (sheesh, we have nearly 2000 posts here at this point!), but the tag cloud will really only be utilized properly going forward from here.   If you have any mechanical/aesthetic suggestions for the site, now is the time to do so.   Putting that aside, what stuck with me in the last two weeks?   PUNISHERMAX #14: I wrote up #13, but #14 compels me to…  Read More…

(Inset witty title here)

Brian Hibbs

Why is it that that the weeks with lots and lots of things to discuss are weeks where I have some other deadline driven project (order form, ONOMATOPOEIA, whatever), but the week’s I have time to write there’s not a lot I actually want to say?   Still, I’ve been horrible the last few weeks, and while I did a lot of writing for the next Savage Symposium, I don’t think you’ll see that for another week or three? So let’s me dive into what I have to say here…   PUNISHERMAX #13: This book seriously lost its momentum when it went on that hiatus (seriously, we lost like 1/3 of our sales here at Comix Experience), but I have…  Read More…
